John Lyon (1514–1592) was a wealthy English landowner, who was the founder of Harrow School. The John Lyon School, the John Lyon's Charity, and a Harrow School house, Lyon's, are named after him.

Past Education System
Education was strong in ancient days also. In ancient days, the education system has changed based on periods such as Vedic, Brahmanical, Muslim, British periods. In Vedic periods schools were becoming boarding and students were handed over to the teacher. Students were to study Vedic literature.It is believed that the Christ Hospital School in London in 1552 was the first school to use a school uniform. The earliest documented proof of institutionalised use of a standard academic dress dates back to 1222 when the then Archbishop of Canterbury ordered the wearing of the cappa clausa.
Western or formal education was started in Nigeria in 1842 — only at the primary level — by the Christian missionaries who managed the educational system according to their respective philosophies.
Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay
It was founded April 23, 1635. It was started by Rev. John Cotton who wanted to create a school modeled after the Free Grammar School in Boston, England, in which Latin and Greek were taught. The school was publicly funded and the first classes were held in the home of Philemon Pormort, the school's master.
