Adult dogs shouldn't be left in crates for more than 6-8 hours. Puppies of 17 weeks and older can handle up to 4 or 5 hours in a crate at a time. Leaving a dog home alone in a crate longer than this can hurt their mental and physical health.
If you can get your dog or puppy comfortable with the crate before the first night in it, your odds of getting a good sleep that night will be much higher. Puppies should sleep in their crates at night, as this helps them learn to sleep through the night.
It takes time, dedication and perseverance to crate train any dog, but Cockapoos are generally loving and keen to please you, so as long as you make your actions clear to your dog, then you shouldn't have too much trouble.
The time it takes to train a Cockapoo puppy varies by owner. If you're consistent and patient in your training efforts, it may take as little as a couple weeks. The average time to housetrain a Cockapoo is by four months of age. It can take up to six months for some dogs.
Size Guide | Hiro + Wolf
| SIZE | MEASUREMENT | EXAMPLE BREEDS |
|---|
| MEDIUM | 35cm to 40.5cm around the neck, collar is 2cm wide. | Shiba Inu + Cockapoo + Spaniels |
| LARGE | 42cm to 47.5cm around the neck, collar is 2cm wide. | Bulldog + Dobermann |
| EXTRA LARGE | 49cm to 54.5cm around the neck, collar is 2.5cm wide. | Labrador + German Shepherd + Rottweiler |
A 36" crate should see you through from puppyhood to adulthood, even for the larger Cockapoos. A crate this size gives you room to have a bed at one end and a “toilet” area away from your puppy's bed. It also gives your puppy room to stretch and play if crated for a while during the daytime.
Some dogs relax easier than others. Dogs who can't seem to settle in their crates often benefit from their crate being covered to block out (or muffle) a bit of the light and noise around the room. Crate covering can be particularly useful for training your dog when to sleep and when to play.
Leaving a puppy alone in crate while at work is unacceptable. As a rule of thumb, you can leave a puppy in a crate for a maximum of 5 hours straight ONLY, depending on their age. Adult dogs can handle up to 8 hours of confinement, but it shouldn't be an everyday thing.
If your dog's crate is too big, he may feel that he can eliminate at one end and still keep his living area clean. The ideal size is just big enough for your dog to stand up, turn around, and lie down in comfortably, and just long enough so that his nose and rear end don't touch each end of the crate.
Pros: A quality dog kennel is made to last. Your dog kennel will never stay stinky the way a plastic crate will, even if your dog makes a mess inside. Cons: Metal dog kennels cannot travel with you the way a small crate can, in a vehicle or on a plane.
Crate LengthA kennel that's too small can make a dog uncomfortable. A kennel that's too large can make a dog feel unsafe. Grab a tape measure and measure your dog while standing, taking a measurement from the nose to the base of the tail for its length.
Wire crates are collapsible and easier to store. The plastic crates I've owned can be made into two half shells and stored, but they still take up more space then the wire crates. Visibility: Every puppy is different. If your puppy has a potty accident in his crate it's easy to slide the tray out and clean up.
When it's time to crate your puppy at night, place the toy inside the crate with her so she can snuggle up to the reassuring smells of her canine siblings. A toy with a virtual heartbeat and warmable insert mimics the reassuring sound and feel of your puppy's mother.
Appropriate Crate Size? The crate should be big enough for your dog to be able to stand up, lie down and turn around. Puppies should have this much room and no more. Given too much room, they will soil at one end and sleep in the other.
Cockapoos are a cross breed, a hybrid of the cocker spaniel and the poodle. They were first bred in America but have a large following in the UK too because of their affectionate nature. Cockers are bright too but like to cuddle more than poodles. Join these forces together and the result is a smart, lovable dog.

Most Cockapooo dogs will begin slowing down at between one and two years of age. By the time they are around three years old or so, Cockapoos will be much calmer; however, even adult dogs will need quite a bit of exercise in order to burn off their excess energy.
Depending on what Poodle is used in the mix, smaller Cockapoos will reach their full-size around the six-month mark. For larger Poodles used in breeding, the Cockapoos that are larger will take anywhere from 9 months to 12 months to fully grow. They can range anywhere from 10 inches to 18 inches at the shoulder.
To perform this step, all you need to do is wait until your puppy nips or bites at your hand or feet and say “Ow!” 9 times out of 10, the sound will cause your cockapoo puppy to stop what he (or she) is doing and pause. Overtime, they start to learn where the biting line is.
The best time for your puppy's first meal is around 7 a.m., noontime for lunch, and 5 p.m. for dinner. The last meal should always be around 5 p.m. so that he will have ample time to digest his food and eliminate one last time before bedtime.

Cockapoo puppies should never be left home alone if they're uncomfortable with the home. As the Cockapoo becomes older and is able to hold their bladder for longer periods, they're also able to be left at home for longer periods of time. Most adult Cockapoos can be left alone at home for six to eight hours.
