Here's how to use them:
- Open the Google Duo app.
- Start a video chat with someone.
- At the bottom right of the UI, tap the three vertical dots.
- Navigate to Effects on the far right of the pop-up menu.
- Have fun jumping between the different Effects.
If you want to add some spice to your Google Duo calls, you can add filters or fun effects. To do this, swipe down to record a video message, and to your right, you're going to see options such as Filters and Effects. For now, there are only 13 options, but hopefully, Google will add more soon.
Turn on family mode
- Start or receive a Google Duo. video call.
- At the bottom, tap Menu. Family. To use effects to do things like replace your face with a picture of a flower, tap Effects. To draw pictures, tap Doodle.
Updating FirmwarePlugin your device and then find and run DUOFirmware application. Upon running the application will check your current firmware version and tell you if an update is available. If available then click the Update Button to continue.

As for Google Duo, you can't change the background at the moment, but you can add a background blur effect if you're using the phone app. During a call, tap the three dots (lower right) and then choose Portrait. Duo should be able to pick you out from the background and add a blurring effect.

After you block someone, they can't contact you directly on Duo, but you might still interact with someone you've blocked if you're in a Duo group call together. When you block someone, you can also report abuse.

Set up Google Duo
- Step 1: Install Duo. Duo is available on Android phones and tablets.
- Step 2: Verify your phone number. You can skip phone number verification.
- Step 3: Connect your Google Account. To connect your Google Account, tap Agree.
- After you verify your number on Duo.
- Use Duo to call your contacts.
Use a filter to change your appearance
- On supported models, during a FaceTime video call, tap the screen, then tap . ( If you don't see. , tap the screen.)
- Tap. to open the filters.
- Choose your appearance by tapping a filter at the bottom (swipe left or right to preview them).
Step 2: Uninstall Duo
- Go to your device's home screen.
- Touch and hold the Duo icon.
- Tap Information.
- Tap Uninstall OK.
Google Duo supports group chats for up to 12 users, and offers filters and screen drawing. Though, in terms of data privacy, it's best to only create social media accounts for kids over 13, younger kids could use this app safely with parental supervision.
Invite someone to Google Duo
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Duo.
- At the top, tap the search box to see your contact list.
- Look for the contact you want to invite and tap Invite.
- Your default SMS app will open with a pre-loaded invitation message. Tap Send.

Send a note
- Open the Google Duo app .
- Search for a contact and tap it.
- Tap Send note .
- Create your message: To move or rotate text, touch and hold, then drag. To resize, pinch or pull the text. To draw, at the top right, tap Draw .
- Tap Next .
- Select up to 32 contacts.
- Tap Send .
How to use Google Duo Effects during a video chat

Currently there is no specific way to know if the person is busy on another call while you are trying to make a Video call apart from the application saying “The person is unavailable to take the call”. But you can request for this feature through an in-app feedback from within the Duo application it self.
Google Duo is now letting users sign up without having to give their phone number. According to a report, this option is only available if you're using the Android version of the app on tablets — other users still need to use their phone number to create their account.
Use filters to show devices that meet specific criteria
- From the page with devices listed, click Add .
- Select one of the filter options, such as Name or Device model and enter the requested information.
- Click Apply.
