The main problem with buying a seemingly cheap used luxury car is simple: maintenance and repair costs. Although the luxury car itself may have depreciated to the point where you can afford to buy it, the car's parts aren't any cheaper than they were when it was new.
The letters "AMG" stand for Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach (Aufrecht's birth town). In 1976 most of AMG moved to Affalterbach, with the racing-engine development remaining at the old location in Burgstall. At this time Erhard Melcher ceased to be a partner, but continued to be an employee at the Burgstall location.
Look, bottom line is an older luxury car is prone to issues, period!. That being said, buying a used 10 year old benz isnt a bad thing, just as long as you check the car fax, hire an independent inspector to inspect the car before you purchase it. Get all the maintenance history as well.
Mercedes-Benz were built to impress and even when they are old they do that task very well. A used Mercedes-Benz is still more comfortable, provides superb ride quality and is more luxurious than a brand new Toyota, Honda or Hyundai and in our opinion better than BMW, Audi or Lexus.
Top reason NOT to buy: Ridiculous upfront cost of any model Mercedes as compared to other brands. Reliability of mechanical systems is now sup par as compared to similar models from Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Kia/Hyundai to name a few. Absolutely terrible resale value over the entire product line.
Every Mercedes employee has the right to buy one car from the group per year. He must keep the car at least for six months, then he can resell it. As far as I know, the employee gets a discount of 17 to 20 percent on the list price.
Mercedes-Benz has announced that its newest, smallest car, the 2019 A-class sedan, will start at $33,495 when it goes on sale in early 2019. That makes it the least expensive car that Mercedes sells, undercutting the current CLA by $600.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Service checks and tunes up the most important parts of your vehicle. The A-Service first visit is required at approximately 10,000 miles or after one year of ownership. After the first visit, the A-Service is required approximately every 20,000 miles or two years.
Typically, yes, a Mercedes-Benz is fairly expensive to maintain and repair but it doesn't have to be. While both labor and parts cost more at a M-B dealership you can find aftermarket parts and independent shops that specialize is Mercedes repairs for less.
