To prevent it from turning off the stereo, leave the gear shift in drive ( or anything other than Park) and push the Off button. The engine will shut off, but the ignition will stay in ACC mode, and your stereo will not miss a beat, so to speak.

Hold the right button on your dashboard for some seconds until zero is shown on the trip odometer. If this button does not operate, you can use the right-hand counter comodo by pressing the button at its end for a few seconds till the odometer of your Subaru Outback is reset to zero.
