Go to Insert > Header or Footer. Choose from a list of standard headers or footers, go to the list of Header or Footer options, and select the header or footer that you want. Or, create your own header or footer by selecting Edit Header or Edit Footer. When you're done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
Active your worksheet which you want to insert herder or footer with a cell value, then hold down the ALT + F11 keys, and it opens the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications window.
How to insert header and footer on all sheets in Excel?
- Right click on a worksheet tab in the Sheet Tab bar, and then click Select All Sheets in the right-clicking menu.
- After selected all sheets, please click the Page Layout button on the Status Bar.
- Now the worksheets are displayed in the Page Layout view.
- Enter the footer information in the Footer box.
Headers and footers appear only in print layout view, print preview, and in printed documents. The "print layout" setting (under the View menu) is stored in each individual document.
Note:
- Click the [Page Layout] tab > In the "Page Setup" group, click [Print Titles].
- Under the [Sheet] tab, in the "Rows to repeat at top" field, click the spreadsheet icon.
- Click and select the row you wish to appear at the top of every page.
- Press the [Enter] key, then click [OK].
Open the target workbook; the one to which you want the headers and footers copied. Open the workbook that is the source of your header and footer, and make sure the desired worksheet is displayed. Choose Move or Copy Sheet from the Edit menu. Excel displays the Move or Copy dialog box.

Change or delete a header or footer on a single page
- Double-click the first page header or footer area.
- Check Different First Page to see if it's selected. If not: Select Different First Page. Content of the header or footer on the first page is removed.
- Add your new content into the header or footer.
- Select Close Header and Footer or press Esc to exit.
Create different headers or footers
- Double-click the header or footer.
- Select Different Odd & Even Pages.
- On one of the odd pages, select the header or footer area you want to change.
- Type the document title, and then press Tab twice.
- Select Page Number > Current Position and choose a style.
- Select an even page.
Answer: Click either the Header or Footer command. From the drop-down menu, select Blank to insert a blank header or footer, or choose one of the built-in options. The Design tab will appear on the Ribbon, and the header or footer will appear in the document.
Section breaks are intricately tied in with the File Page setup options of Different First Page and Different Odd/Even Headers and Footers. If you use the Different First Page option in your document, and then insert a section break, the second section is automatically created with the Different First Page too.
Click into the footer and go to Header & Footer in the Ribbon at the top and click link to previous for all the section. I managed to synchronise my footer of all the sections using this method. You can use the Replace function in Word for this.
Insert a section break
- Select where you want a new section to begin.
- Go to Layout > Breaks, and then choose the type of section break you want. Next Page Starts the new section on the following page. Continuous Starts the new section on the same page. This section break is particularly useful for documents that have columns.
Edit your existing headers and footers
- Double-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer.
- Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following:
- When you're done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
A header is the information that appears at the top of each printed page and a footer is the information that appears at the bottom of each printed page. By default, new workbooks do not have headers or footers.
How to Combine Word Documents & Maintain Different Headers
- For a different first page, select "Page Setup" on the file menu. When it opens, select the "Layout" tab.
- If you are planning to print your document in the style of a book with facing pages, then check the "Different odd and even" box. This will allow you to use different headers and footers on facing pages.
On the Header & Footer Tools Design tab, in the Options group, select the check box for Different First Page. Insert page numbers in the top right corner of your paper and in the top left corner, type Running head: TITLE.
If you have a header or footer already, click or tap where you want to put the page number first.
- Go to Insert > Page Number.
- Do one of the following:
- Scroll until you see Page X of Y and select a format.
- Select Close Header and Footer, or double-click anywhere outside the header or footer area.
Put the cursor to the right of the footer, and press the Tab key if necessary to get to the position where you want the page number. Then click the Page Number button and click Current Position before choosing the number. DO NOT choose Bottom of Page, because that will wipe out the existing footer.
Click on the Layout tab. Select Breaks → Sections Breaks → Next Page. Put the cursor on the page where the page numbering should start (that is section two in the document). Click on the Insert tab and Page Number.
To add page numbers:On the Insert tab, click the Page Number command. Open the Top of Page, Bottom of Page, or Page Margins menu, depending on where you want the page number to be positioned, then select the desired style of header. Page numbering will appear. Press the Esc key to lock the header and footer.
