If you have a very customizable product that you need to sell or you're familiar with CSS, PHP, and HTML (or can afford to hire a developer) you'll find that PrestaShop is a great fit for your business needs. It's not only free but also has an amazing feature set with an expanding collection of modules to select.
Even when you start upgrading the prices are pretty reasonable:
- Shopify Lite – $9 per month.
- Basic Shopify Plan – $29 per month.
- Shopify Plan – $79 per month.
- Advanced Shopify Plan – $299 per month.
Magento offers one option, Magento Open Source, free for download. However, while the software is available for free, you will need to pay for web development, web hosting, and additional necessary integration costs to launch and maintain your site.
Magento 2 is a more complicated solution with unlimited customization opportunities that can handle large stores. PrestaShop is more suitable for small businesses and startups. It's easier to use and faster if you don't have many items in a catalog or a lot of custom plugins.
There is no catch - PrestaShop earn money on addons and themes that they sell. I use it since 2009. It is totally free. You may have to purchase a few more modules to get your job done.
Prestashop suffered from a Privilege escalation issue which was dubbed as CVE-2018-13784. This issue was due to the mishandling of the cookie encryption. Prestashop used Blowfish/ECD or AES encryption which was vulnerable to padding attacks. An attacker could alter the contents of cookie to gain admin privileges.
Magento Commerce pricing starts at $1988.00 per month. They do not have a free version. Magento Commerce offers a free trial.
The CMS (Content Management System) in PrestaShop allows you to create, delete and manage the pages of your Store and also their contents like static blocks, images, banners and many more features.
Once you're in the PrestaShop Administrator, click on PREFERENCES, then scroll down to and click on Store Contacts. In Store Contacts, click on the Shop Name field and change the name entry as needed. Click on SAVE to preserve your changes.
Log in to the admin panel of your PrestaShop and go to Preferences menu>Customers. Set the option Phone number to No and save the change. This will make the phone fields on the address form in the customer account settings optional (it will also make them optional on the registration form for new customers).
