Call the Voicemail box: Press *86 (*VM) then the Send key. Press and hold number 1 to use the voicemail speed dial. If calling from another number, dial the 10-digit mobile phone number then press # to interrupt the greeting.
To check your voicemail messages from another phone:
- Call your 10-digit wireless number.
- When you hear your voicemail greeting, press the * key to interrupt it.
- If you reach the main voicemail system greeting, enter your 10-digit wireless phone number, then interrupt your greeting by pressing the * key.
If you run out of minutes you'll be charged the standard rate for using voicemail, which is 40p per minute (with a one minute minimum call charge). You'll also be charged the standard voicemail rate if you use the call back service within voicemail.
To set up your new voice mailbox:
- Dial *99 from your home phone, or dial your local access number from any other phone and follow the steps (press # and enter your 10-digit phone number).
- Enter your temporary PIN which is your 10-digit phone number (for example, 3065551234).
- Enter a new PIN.

BT now charges for 1571 – opt out if you don't use it. BT customers began being charged for its previously-free 1571 answerphone and caller display services on Saturday. So opt out now if you have either of these services and don't use them, or you'll be charged £1.75/month for each – that's £42/year for both.
As a Voicemail Plus customer there will be no additional charges when dialling 1571 unlike Standard Voicemail. We can hide your number if you want to stay anonymous, this service is free of charge.
Dial 1571 from your home phone and select Option 3 to choose your own personal 4 digit PIN. When you're away from home (in the UK or abroad) dial your home number and wait for 1571 to answer. Then press the * key and enter your PIN to access your messages.

- Using someone else's phone, call your own phone number.
- When it goes to voicemail, push the * key on the keypad during the voicemail greeting.
- You'll be prompted for your voicemail pin code, enter it and then press the # button.
How to Check Voicemail on an Android Phone by Calling In
- Open the Phone app.
- At the bottom, tap the dial pad icon.
- Touch and hold 1.
- If prompted, enter your voicemail password.
To turn off voicemail:
- Dial *91 from your home phone.
- Listen for two beeps to confirm that voicemail has been turned off, then hang up.
- Repeat step 1 but this time dial *93, then hang up once you hear the two beeps.
In most cases you have to call the company (dial 611) or go to the retail outlet to turn off voice mail. In some cases with some smartphone/carrier combos, you can go into Settings > Phone and deactivate the voice mail; but not in most cases.
On some Android phones, you may be able to disable voicemail by opening your phone's settings, tapping Call or Phone, tapping Voicemail, tapping your voicemail number, and deleting it.
If you want to ditch 1571 or caller display, go to BT's website, sign in and select 'change your calling features'. Scroll down and click to remove any extras you don't want. Alternatively, call 0800 587 7218 to cancel these services.

To access your voicemail from your landline.
- Dial your Mobile phone number from your handset.
- Allow the call to go to your voicemail.

How do I use Call Waiting?
- Dial * 4 3 # to switch it on.
- If you hear the alert and you'd like to switch between calls, just press R or the Redial button.
- To check if Call Waiting is active, dial * # 4 3 #
- To switch off Call Waiting, dial # 4 3 # at any time.
It's free to use 1471 to find out the last number that called. If you press '3' to return the call there's a 35p charge plus the cost of the call.
All you have to do to access your mailbox is dial 1571. Note that features such as Call Waiting and Call Forward when Busy override the 1571 busy divert. It's good news if you have a BT Business phone line, as 1571 is free. The BT Answer message service is provided by default, but may need to be registered.
What is BT Answer 1571? BT Answer 1571 is an answering service that answers calls when you're away from the phone or engaged on another call. You'll know you have a message in your mailbox if you get an interrupted dial tone.
