Founding members Edit
The United Federation of Planets was founded in 2161 by the following members: Andoria. Homeworld of the Andorians and the Andorian Empire.Trekkies everywhere will swear Spock wore blue, Scotty wore red and Kirk wore gold. As further proof, look at the wrap-around tunics as well as the dress uniform tunics of Kirk's – all green. They came off as their true colors because they were constructed of different materials than the standard duty command shirts.
Starfleet is not a military organisation.
It is a scientific research and diplomatic body. Although the duties of the Enterprise may include some military responsibilities, the primary purpose of the Enterprise — as with all Starfleet vessels is to expand the body of human knowledge.The Heart of Virtue, also known as tIq ghob in the ancient Klingon tongue, was a term used as the name for the trefoil symbol of the Klingon Empire. The final blade was attributed to loyalty where all Klingons found glory when one found it that bound them all in a common path.

Admission is open to any Federation citizen, or non-citizens by sponsorship of a Starfleet command-level officer; minimum entry age for humans is 16.
In the "meatball" design, the sphere represents a planet, the stars represent space, the red chevron is a wing representing aeronautics (the latest design in hypersonic wings at the time the logo was developed), and then there is an orbiting spacecraft going around the wing.

Originally Blue was science and medical as it is the color of water, the molecule of life; red was for technical and security, being the color of power (fire) and danger (blood); gold was for command (and officers solely on the command career, not specialized in any of the above dept) being seen as a color symbolizing
In the Star Trek episode "Chain of Command" Captain Jellico (Ronny Cox) temporarily takes command of the Enterprise, He demands that Counselor Troi change into a Starfleet uniform instead of her grey unitard because he's used to "a certain formality on the bridge." This is how we know Jellico is evil.
Picard was wearing "Casual Duty Attire"
It was basically just a casual version of the standard Starfleet uniform that a ship's captain was able to wear informally. Picard also wore this style of uniform in one or two later episodes on the ship, showing that it wasn't specifically any kind of excursion uniform.Red uniforms belong to the engineering/communications division, including chief engineer Scotty and communications officer Uhura. The blue shirts are worn by the science/medical staff, including McCoy and Spock.
The term originates from the original Star Trek (NBC, 1966–69) television series in which the red-shirted security personnel frequently die during episodes. Redshirt deaths are often used to dramatize the potential peril that the main characters face.
A Klingon baldric worn by Worf. The Klingon baldric was a sash that traditionally went over the left or right shoulder of noble Klingons. It contained the symbol of a Klingon House. ( TOS: "Errand of Mercy"; DS9: "Soldiers of the Empire") Some baldrics were used to hold knives or daggers. (
6 HAS SHE ALWAYS BEEN A SHIP'S COUNSELOR? For the majority of Deanna's Starfleet career, she's been a ship's counselor, but her official rank when she accepted a post aboard the Enterprise was lieutenant commander.
Memory Alpha -> Data
In-Universe, Lt Commander Data wears a gold uniform to indicate his position as Head of the Operations Division as well as de facto Science Officer and Senior Operations Officer in addition to his position as Second Officer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard and First Officer William Riker.This appears to be confirmed by the fact that he's always seen wearing it on (and only on) the grey uniform he was given after being made a Full Ensign, not the striped top he wore as an acting Ensign; as an acting Ensign (and before) he doesn't appear to have worn a combadge.
