The last season of The Last Kingdom, Aethelflaed, decided to sacrifice her relationship with Uhtred, in order to become the Lady of Mercia, but why not marry him to rule between them.
Things worsened when, after Uhtred's wife Gisela died in childbirth, Uhtred desecrated her grave and burned her body on a Pagan pyre, offending Alfred's faith. Finally, when Christian monk Brother Godwin insulted Gisela's memory, Uhtred retaliated and accidentally killed him – a further insult to Alfred's Christianity.
Lord Uhtred and his first wife had Uhtred in 850 but she sadly died shortly after giving birth to him. He later remarried to a Mercian noblewoman, Lady Æthelgifu, that union produced a son; Osbert (later known as Uhtred) in 857.
Brida (died 917) was an East Anglian-born, Danish-raised Viking warrior who was the lover of Uhtred of Bebbanburg and then of Ragnar Ragnarsson and his cousin Cnut Longsword.
During a battle, Uhtred chased Aethelwold down, and he confessed to his crimes, begging for his life to be spared. However, Uhtred wanted to send Ragnar's soul to Valhalla, so he stabbed Aethelwold through the heart with a sword which released Ragnar's soul.
Uhtred and Gisela form a close bond quickly and eventually the two marry and have three children. She sadly died in childbirth.
6 Not Helping Uhtred Earlier With His Skade ProblemUhtred lost focus on what was important as Skade controlled his decisions and started fighting her battles. Brida knew how to save him from the spell all along but refused to help him because she wanted him to suffer for abandoning Ragnar.
Ragnar's curious mind led him to question everything - including the gods themselves. There were actually two occasions on which Ragnar used his own death as a strategic move. During the First Siege of Paris, in Vikings season 3, he pretended to have converted to Christianity and asked to be baptised.
"She's mad that the Danes lost that battle, that Cnut killed Ragnar, that Uhtred didn't kill her when she could have done it herself, and finally that she was treated so poorly as a prisoner. Plus she has pregnancy hormones."
Ragnar had been in a relationship with Brida (Emily Cox) at the time and she was heartbroken to hear of his death. She later found out in season four that it was her new lover Cnut who had persuaded Aethelwold to kill Ragnar.
After Alfred's death in 899, Æthelwold disputed the throne with Alfred's son, Edward the Elder. He attempted to raise an army to support his claim, but was unable to get sufficient support to meet Edward in battle and fled to Viking-controlled Northumbria, where he was accepted as king.
"Uhtred was summoned to a meeting with Cnut, and on the way there, he and 40 of his men were murdered by Thurbrand the Hold, with assistance from Uhtred's own servant, Wighill and with the connivance of Cnut."
Uhtred's Danish brother Ragnar the Younger is brave, loyal and fair, and will come to Uhtred's aid when he's most needed, despite struggling with his brother's enduring loyalty to Alfred and the Saxon cause.
Alone, under a tree, Brida gave birth to her child, her first since she lifted the sorcerer's curse that had stopped her from conceiving with Ragnar. She has vowed to raise her son to hate all Saxons.
In the new season, Brida is pregnant with Cnut's (Magnus Bruun) child. She seems happy and content, that is until the next battle comes. When Brida overhears this, she stabs Cnut and kills him. However, she doesn't stay long to speak with Uhtred and when she attempts to get away, the Welsh surround her.

Basically, if you like Vikings and huge battles, then this is the show for you. Also, as luck would have it, all three seasons of the show are on Netflix. A second person said: "Fyi everybody going through game of thrones withdrawal: the last kingdom is a much better show and on netflix AND there's no incest."
Three years later, we find Uhtred and Gisela married and living happily at his estate at Coccham, along with their two children. Uhtred is sensitive about Gisela being a Dane among Saxons and stands for no racist slurs, even unhorsing the Mercian lord Aethelred and placing a knife to his throat for insulting her.
After finding out Cnut, the father of her two sons, had ordered for her previous partner to be killed, Brida killed Cnut in a fit of rage.
Uhtred is a legend with many warriors who would follow him into the shield wall without hesitation. Alfred definitely admires Uhtred's confidence and clever war tactics. However, he doesn't agree with his temper, impatience, and religious views.â€
Uhtred fails again to capture Bebbanburg. His son-in-law, the pagan warlord Sigtryggr, king of Northumbria, asks for help against invading West Saxons who seem intent on breaking the recent truce with Aethelflaed, the ruler of Mercia and King Edward of Wessex's sister.
However, according to the books The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, on which the series is based, Eadith actually ends up with Uhtred. In the book titled The Empty Throne, the plot summary says Eadith is captured and she later becomes Uhtred's lover.
In the books, Uhtred goes on to marry newcomer Eadith (Stefanie Martini) from season four, much to the disappointment of fans who were hoping she would form a relationship with Uhtred's friend, Finan (Mark Rowley).

From there, we have Iseult with 247 votes. Brida came in with 114 votes, and Skade with 103 votes. Mildrith brought up the rear with 59 votes. Brida is Uhtred's lover from his younger days.
Æthelred was succeeded as ruler by his widow Æthelflæd (Edward's sister) as Lady of the Mercians, and she had probably been acting as ruler for several years as Æthelred seems to have been incapacitated in later life.
