Why Telecheck denied your check could bedue to mismanagement of a previous bank account like having unpaidchecks or owing a bank account debt or you may have beendeclined because of high risk factors, despite having sufficientfunds.
Code 3 means that TeleCheck has nonegative information on the check writer or company. However, thecheck falls outside of the established guidelines, andTeleCheck will not guarantee this transaction at this time.If you use an Eclipse® or Accelera® terminal, a recordnumber will appear below the Code 3.
If the customer chooses not to pay for the returneddraft, then their information could be reported for as longas 7 years. However, most bad check databases, includingTelecheck, will remove the entry after 5 years of reportingtime.
To request a report by phone, call 800-366-1048and advise the representative that you are calling tofind out if your name is listed in the TeleChecksystem. Verify your identification by giving thecustomer service representative either your Social Securitynumber or your driver's license number.
Technically, it's illegal to pay with a checkwhen you know that there's no money backing up thecheck. However, in some cases (such as online bill paymentsthat you schedule with your bank), the payee doesn'teven need to deposit the check — funds will bededucted from your account when your bank makes thepayment.

We contacted several customer service representativesand learned that yes, Dollar General does offer cash back atthe checkout register when you pay with debit card. Youcannot get cash back with check purchases.
