Waterproof Socks are easy to care for and clean. Simply Machine Wash in cold water with a gentle liquid detergent and hang dry or tumble dry on low heat. You can turn them inside out to dry more after 15 minutes of drying time.
How to Clean Your Gloves
- We recommend machine-washing your gloves in cold water using a mild laundry detergent.
- If you don't have a washing machine, we recommend washing your gloves in a sink using mild laundry detergent or dishwashing soap.
- Do NOT use bleach or solvents as these oxidizing agents can cause discoloration.
While water resistant, they are not waterproof. GORE-TEX® garments are waterproof, breathable, and windproof. Both fabrics are extremely durable.
Gore-Tex isn't foreverEven powerful Gore-Tex has a lifespan. For people that use their gear daily, this lifetime can range from three to five years while those who use less frequency can get close to 15 years out of their garments.
To restore the water repellency of GORE-TEX outerwear, GORE-TEX brand recommends the following steps:
- Machine wash your garment as described in the wash instructions.
- Once it is dry, tumble dry your garment for 20 minutes to reactivate the durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment on the outer fabric.
Washing, drying and reheating your garment helps restore the durable water repellent (DWR) that is important to the performance of a GORE-TEX garment. Do not tumble dry GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments.
Wash Thinsulate-lined cotton, nylon, polyester, or fleece with Signature Detergent on the normal cycle with hot water to achieve the deepest clean.
Waterproofing a Gore-Tex Jacket will eventually be required because despite the inner layer being a breathable waterproof membrane, the outer layer (shell) of the jacket will lose its waterproofing, soak up water and stay wet, blocking the effect of the Gore Tex.
To remove grease from a GORE-TEX garment, you should dampen the stain and then rub the stained area with Grangers® Performance Wash, Fibertec Pro Wash or ReviveX® Synthetic Fabric Cleaner diluted with 3 parts water (dishwashing detergent can also be used with fair results).
Re: How to de-stink smelly waterproofsI spent the last couple of days with a Goretex Rep and his advice was use a specialised cleaning brand like Grangers or Nik wax (Gore don't endorse any brand). Wash at 40 and tumble dry to properly activate the DWR chemicals. A cleaner then a spray.
In latex gloves, after snapping them a few times, you may discover a pretty offensive smell. This smell comes from residual chlorine that gets trapped in the molecules of the latex. Chlorine is used to cleanse disposable glove of residues and powders used during the manufacturing process.
Making the Gloves Smell Nice. Neutralize bad odors with baking soda. Baking soda is a universal deodorizer, and it can be used inside your boxing gloves to eliminate odors and neutralize bad smells. When your gloves are dry, sprinkle a few pinches of baking soda inside each glove and let it sit for a couple hours.
If you have forgot to dry your boxing gloves and they have become stinky, these methods will for sure help you clean them.
- Use anti-bacterial spray to kill germs. Using anti-bacterial spray will kill germs in your gloves.
- The salt water soak.
- Freeze your gloves overnight.
- The stuffing method.
- Use apple cider vinegar.
Wash thoroughly with saddle soap, dry in sunlight (UV kills bacteria in case that's the source of the smell) or spritz with white vinegar (also kills bacteria) and allow to dry out. Either way the gloves will probably end up dry and stiff after that treatment. So then feed the leather with leather conditioner.
To dry them out in time for your next excision into the winter air, pull them over the bottom of a jar, then place the jar upside down on top of a radiator or heating vent. The warm air will fill the jar and dry out your gloves in no time.
It works better if you put tin foil around the glove first.
It is not recommended to tumble dry leather gloves or hang directly over a heat source. After the gloves have dried, apply a leather conditioner or wax with a polishing cloth to keep your gloves waterproof and prevent the leather cracking.
Allow the gloves to dry naturally and do not use any external heat source such as a radiator, hair dryer or the sun. As the gloves are drying, put them onto the hands of the wearer several times. This will help to stretch the leather and restore the shape of the gloves to the profile of the hands.
Put a towel inside and squeeze. Then remove towel and put in dryer. Stuff them with newspaper (not glossy inserts, but the actual newspaper). After a few hours, it'll be dry.
To clean polyester gloves (like many running gloves!), wash them in warm water with a gentle detergent in the washing machine, unless the care instructions on the tag says otherwise. If you're unsure, soak them instead. Avoid the dryer and lay them out flat to air dry.
