If you want to do any gaming at all (and even if you don't), the Xbox One S is worth buying over a dedicated player. It's capable, compact and comparatively fast. And until those other players go down in price, it's by far the best value in 4K Blu-ray playback.

While the original Xbox One is technically capable of supporting 4K gaming and video, it has an HDMI 1.4a port, meaning it can only output 4K at 30Hz, which is very limiting. The Xbox One adds support for HDMI 2.0a, so it now supports proper 4K 60Hz output.
Update, June 15, 2015: At the annual E3 video game conference, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One will be able to natively play Xbox 360 games — making its newest console backward-compatible with titles originally created for the Xbox 360.
To set your resolution and upscale everything to 4K, double-tap the Xbox button to open the guide, go to Settings > All settings, then choose Display & sound > Video output. For TV resolution, select 4K UHD.

Open your video in a video player that supports 4K.
Windows - You can use the Movies & TV app to watch 4K videos. Right-click your 4K video, select Open with, and click Movies & TV. Mac - You can use QuickTime to play 4K videos. Click your 4K video, click File, select Open With, and click the QuickTime option. In short, it depends. The difference between 1080p and 4K is undeniable in that a 4K screen is capable of displaying four times the number of pixels as a 1080p screen. From a distance, it is virtually impossible for someone to tell the difference in quality between a 1080p and 4K screen.
Blu-ray is dead. It's not often that an industry's leading OEM quits, but that's what Samsung has done. Samsung had 37 percent of the market, followed by Sony at 31 percent and LG at 13 percent, according to market research firm NPD Group.
Why 4K Blu-ray is worth it
If you have a 4K TV and you want to see its best picture, you'll want a 4K Blu-ray player. Ultra HD Blu-ray discs can hold much more data than standard Blu-ray discs, so they can deliver full 4K resolution along with enhanced color and contrast. Why Ultra HD 4K TVs are still stupid. The flood of TVs with higher resolution than 1080p is inevitable, but at typical TV sizes, quadruple the pixels makes no difference in picture quality and are not worth the extra price. As we all expected, the big news at CES this year was Ultra HD 4K displays.
To be honest, 4K audio is a bit of a wild goose. You see, 4K is exclusively a video technology (and a sweet, sweet one at that), however lately the term has come into use in conjunction with audio, but it has more to do with technology than the actual audio.
If you care about getting the best picture quality possible, then yes, the Blu-ray will almost always be the best version of the movie. However, it's worth pointing out the obvious: for most people and a lot of shows, streaming 4K video is perfectly fine. The visual quality on shows like that kind of isn't the point.
Well, the facts are in, and the verdict is: Yes, Blu-Ray is better than DVDs. It's better than streaming, too, providing cleaner, crisper imaging, more room for movie "extras," and overall a much-improved movie-viewing experience. But Blu-ray is also toast. It's obsolete.
If you have a 4K TV without the 4K-compatible Netflix app, all is not lost. You can connect a separate streamer, such as the excellent Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K or Now TV Smart Stick to your TV. This gives you access to Netflix (and other services) in 4K.
4K Blu-Ray Players Are Finally Worth Buying. When you compare this to a 4K Blu-ray which can support bitrates of up to 128Mbps and 100GB in size on a single disc, you start to understand why streaming services can not look as good. But it's not just about better picture quality, it's also about better sound.
