Adjustable Ride-height StrutsThese kind of struts are designed to level out the front of late model trucks and SUVs. Accomplished with a coil spring collar that changes between factory height and leveling height.
Compared to this enhanced shock protection, Bilstein 4600 stick to a simple painted coating. Like other manufacturers' painted shocks, the yellow paint will eventually start chipping away. Specifically valved for firmer control when you need it. Up to ~3'' lift with adjustable heights, supports bigger tires.
The decision depends on what you want out of your rig. That said, definitely expect a firmer ride out of Fox compared to the Bilstein. The aluminum body of the Fox 2.0 shocks provide a couple different benefits; lighter overall weight, and more importantly, better heat dissipation.
We have teamed up with Bilstein, combing both our suspension expertise to create a range of reliable, comfortable, yet heavy duty 4x4 lift kits. Our Bilstein Lift kits are each designed and assembled for specific applications, all our lift kits are modifiable for specific vehicle use.
The shocks themselves do NOT provide lift. The springs provide lift (or spacers if you just put in spacers) and if you get longer shocks then the longer shocks can provide suspension travel.
BILSTEIN 1-way adjustment: Perfectly fine-tuned sportBased on the high-performance BILSTEIN mono-tube technology, the BILSTEIN 1-way adjustment provides easy damping power adjustment in situ by turning the adjuster at the shock absorber. Ten noticeable clicks give a clear haptic feedback.
The Bilstein B6 are a performance damper. You use the B6 with your OE springs or the Bilstein B3 springs if you are replacing them also. The B8 is designed to be used exclusively with lowering springs or vehicles that are fitted with a lowered suspension from the manufacturer like Mercedes AMG models.
Bilstein tech advises that you should always mount your shocks so that the Bilstein logo is right-side up.
Stock shocks are definitely a great deal, and a good shock. I found that the bilsteins were better than stock on my 94. Better handling, better ride and last longer.
While there are Bilstein products that are adjustable, the Bilstein B6 is not an adjustable shock, so there are actually not two height positions.
Your Bilstein's should last for the life of your truck. We had a customer in a few months ago who had Bilstein's on his Dodge for 800,000 miles. If they ever go bad, Bilstein will replace them free of charge for the original owner as long as you have a receipt.
If you are looking to improve the vehicle handling you should consider B6 or B8. If you want to retain the vehicle ride height or you do a lot of towing and want a firmer rear suspension the B6 is for you. If you have a lowering springs fitted to your car you need B8.
Although they are different brands and may appear to be very different from each other the Bilstein 5100 and Heavy Duty actually share many of the same components and ride characteristics.
In our collective experience, Bilstein is the best shock for the money. They control suspension motion, help mitigate or control body sway and lean, and can make or break the pleasure you experience when driving.
Bilstein shocks and struts are known all over the world as the best performance shocks for cars, trucks and motorhomes.
If the new shock bushings are just a little too thick to fit into the shock tab, like mine was just bend the shock tab back with a crescent wrench. Once you tighten the bolt down it will bend itself back into place. Tighten the bolt to 45 foot pounds, using a ¾â€ socket, 3/8ths ratchet and a box end wrench.
The Bilstein 5100 zinc plated monotube shock is described by Bilstein as being more oriented for lifted trucks, heavier-than-stock vehicles, trucks or Jeeps running larger wheels and tires, and basically anything modified and not factory. The 5100 shocks DO RIDE FIRMER than stock, do not be mistaken.
Standard shocks without specialized gas will not lift a vehicle. The best way to about lifting a truck is using a lift kit, which comes with all the necessary parts to ensure a good job. Since the suspension connects the tires to the truck, it's through this that you can raise it.
The Bilstein B6 and B8 are the same dampers except that the extension travel of the B8 is limited to allow fitting of even shorter springs. As the Eibach springs are designed to work with the standard (non GTI) dampers I expected no issues here. I prefer to get as much travel on the damper as possible.
The B4 damper is what we call an OEM replacement, meaning it was designed to replace or match what the car has on it from factory, this allows you to either replace or change to a more superior higher quality shock. Often returning the ride to a better then 'from factory' feel.
RAY: You're confusing shocks with springs. Bad shocks affect ride and handling, but they won't change the ride height of the car. But since the height is the same on both sides of the same end of the car, it's more likely that they've just worn out and need to be replaced.
Q: Does a leveling kit affect ride quality? A: Under most circumstances, as long as you get proper installation a leveling kit will not affect your ride quality. However, if you buy a cheap leveling kit and attempt to install at home, it could.
There is a big difference between them, not just the colour! Bilstein B4 dampers are classed as a replacement damper, this means they are a direct replacement shock absorber of the original factory fitted shocks. Bilstein B6 is an uprated shock absorber and is sometimes know as Bilstein B6 Sport.
