It was Carol who let Negan out of his cell earlier on season 10. Negan says it was an accident, and he's locked up in his cell as others decide whether he should be killed. In that time, we learn that someone has let Negan out of his cell.
Negan didn't rest on his laurels while incarcerated at the Alexandria Pop-Up Penitentiary. It soon transpired Negan hadn't simply escaped from jail in The Walking Dead season 10 episode 4 but was actually released by Carol on the condition he infiltrates the Whisperers and kill Alpha.
Yes, Negan is good now. One major theme is the show is that people can change. It's been over six years since Negan's horrible actions, and since then, he's done some truly good things and is fighting for the right cause. There's no good all the time and there's no bad all the time.
Negan spends a lonely evening being tormented by visions of himself as the leader of the Saviors and, the next morning, he returns to the field where Rick (Andrew Lincoln) slit his throat in the Season 8 finale. He's looking for Lucille…and he finds her, still wrapped in barbed wire, buried in the dirt.
Brandon is a survivor of the outbreak and later an antagonist in AMC's The Walking Dead. He is the son of two Saviors. Following their deaths during the war, Brandon relocated to the Alexandria Safe-Zone where he lived with his adoptive father.
In the comics, someone leaves Negan's cell door unlocked and instead of leaving, he stays to show rick that he can be trusted. Some time after that, Negan does escape. He finds Alpha and the whisperers and joins them. He gains Alpha's trust and she takes a liking to him.

As if being nearly defeated by Rick wasn't enough, in the final scene of the episode, it's revealed that Negan didn't actually escape. Instead, he wakes up in the front seat of a pickup truck with a gun to his head, having been kidnapped by Jadis in all the furor.
Rick then slashes Negan's throat with a knife.
Negan proceeds to pulverize Abraham's head to a pulp, as the others recoil in horror. When Negan presents the blood-soaked bat to a horrified Rosita (Christian Serratos), Daryl (Norman Reedus) leaps up and punches Negan, but is quickly subdued by Dwight (Austin Amelio) and two other Saviors.
The completely different spin took its own completely different spin in the midseason nine finale, in which Negan finally breaks free from prison, thanks to Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) accidentally leaving the door to Negan's cell open in a fit of grief and rage.
Maggie Rhee is back and she means business. With the premiere of the first of six bonus episodes of Season 10 of “The Walking Dead,†Lauren Cohan has officially made her full-time return to the series that made her a household name.
Sunday's season 11 premiere of The Walking Dead ended with a shocking move from Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan when he left Lauren Cohan's Maggie to die rather than help pull her on top of a subway car as zombies were pulling her back down onto the tracks.
Rick regrets not being able to save anyone during the prison assault by the Governor. Negan regrets killing Glenn and even apologizes to Glenn's wife, Maggie Greene, for taking her husband away from her.
