Both India and Pakistan claimed the entirety of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, although Pakistan has recognized Chinese sovereignty over the Trans-Karakoram Tract and Aksai Chin since 1963.
Current status and political divisions. India has control of about half the area of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, which continues the name Jammu and Kashmir, while Pakistan controls a third of the region, divided into two de facto provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
It's been declared off-limits to tourists on a number of occasions. There have also been a few isolated incidents, with Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley being temporarily shut down. However, tourists always begin returning after peace is restored. So, is it safe to travel to Kashmir?
They took control of most of the western parts of the State by 22 October. On 24 October, they formed a provisional Azad Kashmir (free Kashmir) government based in Palandri.

Section 144 is when assembly is prohibited under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A curfew is when Section 144 is imposed along with essential services shut down. Citizens cannot be arrested without cause during a lock down but can be booked under Section 188 during a curfew.
According to folk etymology, the name "Kashmir" means "desiccated land" (from the Sanskrit: Ka = water and shimeera = desiccate). In the Rajatarangini, a history of Kashmir written by Kalhana in the mid-12th century, it is stated that the valley of Kashmir was formerly a lake.
Article 370 acknowledges the special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in terms of autonomy and its ability to formulate laws for the state's permanent residents. In the 1954 Presidential order, among other things, the Fundamental Rights in the Indian Constitution were made applicable to Kashmir with exceptions.

No curfew tomorrow. Hope situation remains calm. Srinagar- Jammu Highway was not affected by Curfew in Some parts of Srinagar, In fact I travelled to and fro to Pahalgam yesterday without any Problem, and today Govt has announced there will be no curfew in any parts of Srinagar.
The Delhi Police Monday said curfew passes are mandatory for inter-state travel from 24 March, which means travel between Delhi and its neighbouring areas, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Sonipat, Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar, Gurugram and Manesar, will require a curfew pass.
All schools, colleges and universities will remain closed in Jammu and Kashmir till March 31 due to the threat of novel coronavirus. Cinemas in all the 10 districts of Jammu division will also remain closed for the rest of the month.

The princely state of Jammu and Kashmir came into being in 1846 after the First Anglo-Sikh War. Prior to that, Jammu was a tributary of the Sikh empire based in Lahore.
The events of 19 January 1990 were particularly vicious. On that day, mosques issued declarations that the Kashmiri Pandits were Kafirs and that the males had to leave Kashmir, convert to Islam or be killed. Those who chose to the first of these were told to leave their women behind.
On 3 October 2019, journalists in Kashmir staged a sit-in protest against the communications blackout describing the blockade of the internet and mobile phones as a 'gag'. Prepaid mobile services were barred for the 85th consecutive day on 28 October, for at least 2.5 million prepaid cell phone users in Kashmir.
The partition was caused in part by the two-nation theory presented by Choudhary Rehmat Ali, due to presented religious issues. Pakistan became a Muslim country, and India remained a secular country.
The Instrument of Accession is a legal document executed by Maharaja Hari Singh, ruler of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, on 26 October 1947. By executing this document under the provisions of the Indian Independence Act 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh agreed to accede to the Dominion of India.
