The EFL Championship Playoff Final is not called the 'most valuable match in soccer' for nothing. The match is worth over 100 million dollars to the winners, and could be worth much more if they manage to stay in the Premier League and boost their global profile.
The promoted teams are Norwich City, Sheffield United and Aston Villa. Norwich City and Aston Villa returned to the top flight after absences of three years, while Sheffield United returned after a twelve-year absence.
Bolton have been given a five-point deduction, suspended for 18 months, for failing to fulfil fixtures against Brentford last season and Doncaster this term. Wanderers were due to play the Bees on 27 April but players refused to play the fixture over unpaid wages.
There are 24 clubs in League One (though there are currently 23, due to the explusion of Bury). Similarly, the four clubs that finished at the bottom of EFL League One are relegated to EFL League Two and are replaced by the top three clubs and the club that won the 4th–7th place play-offs in that division.
Arsenal have been relegated, back in 1912/13 when they were called Woolwich Arsenal. They finished 20th out of 20 with 18 points, 5 behind 19th placed Notts County and 10 behind 18th placed Chelsea, and 36 behind champions Sunderland. Since 1919/20, Arsenal have played in the top flight every season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Fulham joined as the promoted clubs from the 2017–18 EFL Championship. They replaced West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and Stoke City who were relegated to the 2018–19 EFL Championship.
