It's through this that Batman is able to regain control and banish The Joker from his mind forever, because The Joker's greatest fear – his greatest demon – is Batman himself. That, to me, is what makes Arkham Knight one of the greatest Batman stories ever told.

If you only plan to play the main Rocksteady trilogy, then do it in release order: Asylum, City and then Knight. In case you are interested in also playing the prequel, Arkham Origins, then the order would be mostly the same just with a minor change: Asylum, City, Origins and then Knight.

What game in the series do you think has the best story? Arkham Asylum for sure. Origins had the best story, despite being the worst of the 4. Suprisingly, I thought Knight had the weakest overall story, despite being the most solid mechanically.
In the game's main storyline, Batman is incarcerated in Arkham City, a super-prison enclosing the decaying urban slums of fictional Gotham City. He must uncover the secret behind a sinister scheme orchestrated by the facility's warden, Hugo Strange.
I would recommend you play Asylum before City. Not because it's important, but because you might not appreciate Asylum as much if you play City first. I recommend playing the games in order of release, as it is easiest that way to get to know the games' controls. Definitely save Arkham Knight until the end.

Origins isn't technically part of the trilogy (wasn't made by rocksteady), and as a prequel, it isn't necessary to play at all. If you've played city and asylum, you can play knight first and origins second. The two are pretty unrelated, so it doesn't matter which you play first.
Gameplay. Arkham Origins is an open world action-adventure game incorporating stealth game tactics. Batman can use his cape to glide around Gotham City and the grapnel gun's retracting rope to attach to hard-to-reach ledges and extend his flight.
Arkham OriginsIt is shown in this game that Joker first met Harleen Quinzel in Blackgate while audio tapes in Arkham Asylum state that they first met at Arkham. Despite being canon to the series, the fact that Arkham Origins alters the first meeting of Harley and Joker is not apparent in later games.
Definitely worth it. The game is great, just not as great as Asylum and City. Still a great story. If you enjoyed the other Arkham games, then you'll like this one too.

They are connected, but you don't need to play them in ordr to understand the story (except some small parts, but it's not very important). That said, between city and origins city is by far the better game. If you have to choose get city, not origins.

Arkham Knight is the best out of all the games. It has the best graphics, best gameplay, best dialogue (maybe tied with City), best premise, and most creative.
My personal ranking is :
- Arkham Knight.
- Arkham City.
- Arkham Asylum.
- Arkham Origins.
Arkham City is the best of both Asylum and Knight. It is expansive free roaming but also intimate in it's storytelling. It has by far the best story and side missions and the best boss fights. It's the finest hour or Rocksteady by a mile and never for once feels boring.
Arkham City is not accessible, though it was kind of cool seeing it. You get the best view of it from standing on top of Wayne Tower.
