How to upload and download music on Chrome
- Tap the three-line menu icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
- Tap Upload music.
- Drag and drop your music into the window.
- If you haven't already added Google Play Music for Chrome, Google will prompt you to add it so that it can commence the upload.
To view the Downloads folder, open File Explorer, then locate and select Downloads (below Favorites on the left side of the window). A list of your recently downloaded files will appear. Default folders: If you don't specify a location when saving a file, Windows will place certain types of files into default folders.
The Chrome operating system can play MP3 and m4a audio files, but you must download them to your Chromebook's limited storage drive or store them externally on a thumb drive or SD card. There's another option: stream them through Google Play Music.
To read CD or DVD media, plug in the external optical drive to your Chromebook via USB. Insert a disk that has regular computer files. Then, access the files in the same way you would access your local files by clicking Launcher > Files.

And while you can use the Amazon Music website to stream music to a Chromebook, that's not at all helpful for those who want to download tunes for offline playback.
Put your files in Google Drive [go to drive.google.com]. Work from there, and drop copies to a USB stick. The actual MP3 player may not be recognized by Chrome OS, however. Put your files in Google Drive [go to drive.google.com].
Pretty much every Chromebook out there has speakers built in, and almost all of them have at least one other audio output as well—be it a 3.5mm headphone jack, or Bluetooth. For example, some game controllers have an audio output, and there's a chance Chrome OS may see this as an actual audio device.
Headphone not working on ChromeBooks
- Plug headphone into headphone jack.
- Click on the “settings” bar (bottom right – you should see clock, wifi, etc)
- Click the “right arrow” besides volume.
- Click “Headphone”
- Unplug the headphone and it should auto switch back to speaker (Internal)
A stand-alone mic is located next to the webcam at the top of the display.
Factory reset your Chromebook
- Sign out of your Chromebook.
- Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r.
- Select Restart.
- In the box that appears, select Powerwash. Continue.
- Follow the steps that appear and sign in with your Google Account.

Turn on Chromebook accessibility features
- Step 1: Find accessibility features. At the bottom right, select the time. Or press Alt + Shift + s. Select Settings .
- Step 2: Turn on a feature. Choose the accessibility features you'd like to use: Text-to-speech: Turn on the screen reader or Select-to-speak.
To turn up the volume in Chrome:
- Start playing sound in Chrome (e.g. Music or YouTube)
- Click volume icon in taskbar.
- Click Mixer.
- Adjust the volume level for Chrome.
- If you raise it to the Speaker volume, they should become linked.
Chromebook keyboards have a mute key, but do not include an unmute key. The missing key is by designed. To unmute audio, press the volume up or volume down key (Figure 1).

Music Software For Chromebook
Hands down, the most important thing you need for music production is a DAW software (digital audio workstation). This may be one of the trickiest aspects of recording music on a Chromebook, because Chromebooks don't run traditional software like Windows or Mac OS computers do.On 64-bit Windows 8, the minimum hardware requirements to run Audacity are 2GB of RAM and a 1 GHz processor. Audacity recommends much higher if the application is to be used for recording lengthy multi-track projects.
Audacity is best audio editor in Windows but it is not available in Android. Audacity® is free, open source, cross-platform audio software for multi-track recording and editing.
Well, a Chromebook might not be the first device you think of when you think about making music, but the platform actually has some good applications for music development. Of course, GarageBand, the popular music-making app for Macs, is not available on Chromebooks.
All you have is your iPhone or iPad to make your recording. Audacity is a promising software, and it is great if we can access it on our mobile devices. But unfortunately, there is no Audacity for iOS up to now.
