It is a rare fish in Britain, only found in glacial lakes but can be the only fish to be found in lakes around the Canada Arctic. Char feed mainly on insects, but can feed on fish and small crustaceans. It is a small Large Char, species-wise.
The Cherry Salmon is a fish and sells for 1000 Bells.
In their native habitat, adults range from 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) long. Fish over 12 inches (30 cm) are considered large. Golden trout that have been transplanted to lakes have been recorded up to 11 pounds (5.0 kg).
The Char is an fish that can be found in the waterfalls. It appears in March to June, from 4AM to 9AM and from 4PM to 9PM. It will appear again from September to November to 4AM to 9PM.
The trick to catching the Stringfish is to craft fish bait using the squirting Manila Clams you dig up on the beach in order to have the rare fish spawn. Each clam can be crafted into a single helping of fish bait which you can sprinkle in any body of water for the shadow of a fish to appear.
Just like the Blue marlin, Giant trevally and Tuna, the Mahi-mahi can only be caught on the pier in New Horizons. It's important to remember that this pier can be found attached to either east or west shore of your island and is not the jetty where Dodo Airlines is located. Make sure you fish from this pier!
How to Catch a Golden Trout in Animal Crossing New Horizons
- Head to any of your clifftop rivers (any river above ground level)
- Make sure the time is between 4pm and 9am.
- In the Northern Hemisphere it will need to be March-May, Sept-Nov.
- Throw bait into the water until a medium shadow size appears.
The Saddled Bichir is available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as of June 1 in the Northern Hemisphere. You can catch a Saddled Bichir from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. in river areas. To catch a Saddled Bichir, keep an eye out for a medium to large fish shadow.
How to get Mitten Crabs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- You can get the Mitten Crab between September and November for the northern hemisphere, or March and May for the southern hemisphere.
- You'll need to fish in your island's rivers between 4pm and 9am to find a Mitten Crab.

The river clifftop is any elevated part of the river in the north of the island. The clifftop area features the source of the river and several waterfalls, but as long as your fishing within this elevated river (and not, say, a pond on top of a cliff) the Stringfish can appear after 4pm.
Craft Fish Bait and throw it into the pond to attract fish. Check if the shadow of the fish that appeared is similar to the Giant Snakehead.

The Dace is a fish that can be found

If a pond is on the 3rd level of your island (or second cliff level), it will be considered a clifftop river. We have been able to confirm this, as we caught a Golden Trout in a pond at the highest level of our island.
The coelacanth can be found in the front ocean fish exhibit, in the deep sea tank on the right side of the room, along with the barreleye, oarfish, and football fish.
How to Catch a Snapping Turtle in Animal Crossing New Horizons
- Snapping turtles can be found only in rivers, never ponds or the ocean.
- They are present in April through October in the Northern Hemisphere, and October to April in the Southern Hemisphere.
- They only come out at night.
Much like when searching for sturgeons, the easiest way to fish for salmon or king salmon is to stand on the beach next to the river mouth and throw your line out into the water, since these fish will only appear in the section between the land and the sea.
The Black bass is a common fish found in rivers that appears in all games. It appears year round, all day and sells for 300 Bells.
Coelacanth (fish price - 15,000 Bells) - Infamous for being one of the rarest fish in the Animal Crossing series, Coelacanth is back in New Horizons. The rules for this one are pretty simple - it needs to rain, but otherwise it's available all year round, at all times of day, and from the ocean.
To get Fish Bait, you will first need to find a Manila Clam. If you head for the beach and walk up and down, from time to time, you will see a small shadowy dot on the sand. Dig there with your shovel, and you should find a Manila Clam.
One of the biggest fish you can capture in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the whale shark, a massive creature that's found in the ocean around your island. In the Northern Hemisphere, the whale shark can be captured from June to September.
Rainbowfish also only appear between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, during daylight hours. There's no way to catch one at night. They also only spawn in rivers, not ponds or the ocean. Make sure to check flowing inland waters when looking for Rainbowfish.

You will only be able to catch Coelacanth during the rain in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Provided it's raining, you can catch Coelacanth during any time and any month of the Animal Crossing New Horizons calendar. Know that this fish will only appear in the ocean and is symbolised by the largest shadow.
