AMD announced the Ryzen 5000 series of processors based on the Zen 3 architecture October 2020. This new family of desktop-class CPUs is the successor to the previous 3000 series, offering additional performance with a core redesign and yet more efficiencies to really ramp up the pressure on Intel.
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Review Leak: $200 CPU Beats $350 Intel Core i7-7700K. Even more impressive is the Cinebench R15 rendering test, where the AMD CPU's score of 1,123 is not just faster than the stock speed Core i7-7700K, but it actually beat it when the Intel CPU was overclocked to 4.9GHz too.
AMD 5600X OverviewDesigned for socket AM4 motherboards using the powerful Zen 3 architecture, the 7nm 5th generation Ryzen processor offers significantly improved performance compared to its predecessor.
AMD Ryzen 5 processors are generally slightly less powerful than i5 processors. They have a clock speed of up to 4.4GHz, compared to the 4.6GHz of the i5. But they do have twice as many threads. The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 also stands out thanks to a very low power consumption of 65W.
AMD's Ryzen 7 CPUs clearly outperform the comparative i7 series from Intel, so this first round goes to them, but while the number of cores undoubtedly influences performance, gamers will benefit more from a faster single-core clock speed.
It's time we finally check out the Ryzen 5 5600X, the most affordable Ryzen 5000 series processor announced to date. However this third-gen processor already didn't make sense as it cost 25% more than the R5 3600 and offered little extra performance.
the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is gaming performance. The 5600X has the right speeds and core count for any modern game right now. It should perform well with any modern graphics card. For its $299 price (which is inconsistent at the moment), it's really the best option for most people.
The AM4 socket remains, for nowThat will be the case with Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 processors too, though this will be the last generation of Ryzen chips to use the AM4 socket.
Announced in May and introduced in April 2017, the Ryzen 5 processors are mid-range performance processors with 4 to 6 cores and multi-threading support.
AMD Ryzen 5000 support for X570, B450, A520, B550, and X570 motherboards. AMD Ryzen 5000 series support officially comes with the AGESA 1.1.80 firmware. Motherboard manufacturers have not been waiting till January, in fact, most of them have already released the BIOS with the support for Zen3 processors by now.
Winner: AMD.For professionals on the hunt for performance in content creation and productivity applications, the winner of AMD vs Intel CPUs goes to AMD on the strength of its higher core counts.
Pricing, releaseA full range of chips was announced, from the low-end to the high, and many of them are now available, at a variety of prices. Ryzen 4000 mobile CPUs are found in a variety of laptops, from budget-conscious models for around $600, to higher-end gaming machines that reach almost $1,500.
Unsurprisingly, the best motherboards for the Ryzen 5000 series processors are the two latest and greatest chipsets, the X570 and B550.
AMD Direct usually restocks on Thursday mornings (8-11am Pacific Time). Since you need to be present when the restock happens, prepare to stay near your computer for this time block.

1 Million Ryzen 5000 CPUs were Sold in Q4 2020: That's Just 10-12% of AMD's 7nm Capacity at TSMC; 3% for Big Navi [Update] According to data disclosed by Mercury Research, AMD sold approximately 1 million Ryzen 5000 CPUs in the last quarter of 2020.
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Vermeer 3.7GHz 6-Core AM4 Boxed Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler. Available for In-Store Pickup Only.
The Ryzen 3000 series is built upon a successor architecture to the Zen and Zen Plus cores used in the first and second-generation chips, known as Zen 2. It represents a major overhaul of the design of the CPUs, as well as a die shrinking for certain components.
AMD Ryzen 7 3rd Gen - RYZEN 7 3700X Matisse (Zen 2) 8-Core 3.6 GHz (4.4 GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 65W 100-100000071BOX Desktop Processor.
Short answer: it isn't and you shouldn't trust it. The website is there to remind folks they have physical stores, not sell actual product. If you aren't within convenient driving distance to line up outside the store at open, don't go.
The 7nm Zen 2 architecture found in AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation processors allows AMD to bring TDP down to just 65W in the Ryzen 5 3600, for one. The Ryzen 3 3300X boasts double the amount of L3 cache over its predecessor and manages to be about 10-20% faster with its 4 cores, 8 threads and 4.3GHz in boost clock.
There are currently no pre order options or prices but they will be appearing soon. We are going to be continually updating these as more retailers go live with the AMD Zen 3 and we will be sure to include any pre order options we find.
15/04/21 - Yesterday we received a third shipment of 5900X which has now cleared all pre-orders. As pre-orders are now all fulfilled we will now be closing this FAQ. We have no plans to accept further pre-orders on AMD CPU stock at this time due to the uncertainty on shipments.
A. These items are only available in-store and are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to its high demand, this item typically sells out within minutes of hitting our shelves. A voucher may be required to purchase a limited availability item.
Looking at things through a technical standpoint, Ryzen chips can actually be cheaper to manufacture due to its use of the 'Infinity Fabric' technology which allows for the AMD to make even better high core-count CPUs with modules of 4 cores (Lachlan Shoesmith thanked Connor Tarabocchia for mentioning this part).
The current Approach of AMD seems to use the same chip design excluding APUs and mobile potentially). This means the highest-end epyc will have the same CCD(Core compute die) as of lower-end ryzen. As a result, the R / D costs for AMD are lower and much cheaper due to less manufacturing design.
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X: $299 (around £230, AU$420)
The 5600X is still 12% faster than the 3600 which is a reasonable performance margin, though for many of you I'm sure it will be hard to justify the 50% price increase. The 5600X was 8% faster than the 3600 and 10400F, so a reasonable performance uplift, though by the time we hit 1440p the margins are neutralized.
