After the Titanic sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, hundreds of the survivors, families of victims, and owners of cargo filed claims against the White Star Line for loss of life, property, and for injuries sustained. Their claims totaled $16.4 million.

It is believed that upwards of 1500 people died in the sinking of the Titanic. However, amongst the survivors was the ship's head baker Charles Joughin. Joughin proceeded to tread water for about two hours before encountering a lifeboat, and eventually being rescued by the RMS Carpathia.
The last meal eaten by second-class passengersGuests, blithely oblivious to the tragedy about to occur, consumed plum pudding (pictured), wine jelly, 'cocoanut sandwich', American ice cream, assorted nuts, fruits, cheese and biscuits, and coffee for dessert.
The ship had a whole area on the aft port side called the “refrigeration plant”, that supplied the cooling for separate refrigerated rooms for meats (and each kind of meat, including game, had its own separate room), flowers, wines, cheeses, fish, etc., so that each item could be stored at the right temperature for it.
Who travelled on Titanic? First class passengers were some of the richest and most important people of the time. They included businessmen like John Jacob Astor IV and Benjamin Guggenheim, as well as members of the upper classes and even sportsmen.
