To update your Volkswagen's navigation system, you first need to go to VW's navigation map page here. After clicking through the button to update your map, select your vehicle's model and year and the infotainment system you have and download the appropriate update to your computer.

Volkswagen's infotainment system combines a touchscreen with eight buttons taking you directly to different sections of the system. The screen colouring is mainly dark and very deep, which makes it easy to read even if the sun is shining.
Technology. SEL cars get Volkswagen's Active Info Display as standard, a 10.3-inch TFT screen that replaces the car's traditional dials behind the steering wheel. The display shows everything from speed to sat-nav directions and can be easily adjusted to your preferences.
To find out which version is applicable to your unit, hold the menu button & press software update/versions. Here your current version will be displayed. If it displays 02xx, then purchase the 02XX update, 03xx to 03xx etc. Please do not try to update from 02xx to 03xx, 03xx to 04xx as you risk damaging your unit.

The digital cockpit is a term used for digital experience within a car covering multiple screens, digital assistants and different means of input. In other words, a digital cockpit is a digital screen in place of a traditional instrument cluster.
You can have it set up to show audio, phone book and/or trip computer information, as well as having the sat nav appear as a nearly full-screen display. Virtual Cockpit also allows you to change the sizes of the dials. Virtual Cockpit isn't a touchscreen; it's controlled by buttons on the multifunction steering wheel.
The 2020 Volkswagen Golf, Golf GTI, and Passat do not have access to the VW Digital Cockpit. The 2021 Volkswagen models that have been revealed at the time of writing (Arteon, Atlas, Jetta, and Tiguan) all get the digital cockpit at the same trim as the 2020 models.
