According to Common Sense Media, teens spend an average of nine hours a day online (paywall), compared to about six hours for those aged eight to 12 and 50 minutes for kids between 0 and eight.

- 69% of U.S. adults now report that they are Facebook users, of which 74% use Facebook daily.
- Only about 46% of those 65 and older in the U.S. use Facebook—more than double what it was in 2012.
The number of followers you have can be infinite, but the amount of followers that you should have is finite. With Instagram, you can only follow at most 7,500 people. For a personal Instagram account, the average number of followers is 150, and the idea of having a private account is to bond with friends and family.
After its launch in 2010, Instagram rapidly gained popularity, with one million registered users in two months, 10 million in a year, and 1 billion as of June 2018. In April 2012, Facebook acquired the service for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock.
How old should kids be to use Instagram? According to the terms of service, you have to be 13, but there's no age-verification process, so it's very easy for kids under 13 to sign up. Common Sense rates Instagram for age 15 and up because of mature content, access to strangers, marketing ploys, and data collection.
60% of US TikTok users are aged between 16-24, according to a November 2019 release from Reuters. MarketingCharts TikTok data (March 2019) finds over 50% of TikTok users in the US are aged 18-34 – with a nearly even split between 18-24 year olds and 25-34 year olds.
Once an account reaches more than one million followers, the sky's the limit on what they charge. "It's somewhat of an unspoken rule that influencers can expect to be paid $10.00 for every 1,000 followers they have, once they hit the 100,000 threshold."
Social media is a big part of many teens' lives. A 2018 Pew Research Center survey of nearly 750 13- to 17-year-olds found that 45% are online almost constantly and 97% use a social media platform, such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat.
