Only the Muslim feasts of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha, which follows the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, are permitted. Elsewhere in the Muslim world, including in Egypt, Dubai, Lebanon and Iran, people routinely celebrate birthdays, especially for children.
Most Muslims eat all kinds of meat. In fact, the religion defines itself by the eating of meat: even though the Holy Prophet was a vegetarian. However, many Muslims have no idea of what they are allowed to eat. The maximum they know is that butchery is divided into two: Muslims eat Halaal and non-Muslims eat Jhatka.
Typically greetings include:
- Blessed Eid to you and your family - Eid Mubarak lakum wa-li-'a'ilatakum.
- May God's blessings be showered on you on this Eid al-Fitr - Litanzil 'alaykum barakat Allah fi Eid al-Fitr hatha.
- May you celebrate this every year.
- With all the love, blessings, and peace on this joyous day.
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims won't eat or drink between dawn and sunset. This is called fasting. It is common to have a meal (known as the suhoor) just before dawn and another (known as the iftar) directly after sunset.
Why are there two Eids? Muslims across the UK will celebrate Eid al-Fitr tomorrow to mark the end of Ramadan. It's a day of celebrations and for children it often means lots of presents!
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Muslim lunar calendar. Healthy adult Muslims fast in Ramadan from dawn until dusk. This includes abstaining from drinking, eating, immoral acts and anger. Other acts of worship such as prayer, reading the Quran and charity are also encouraged during the holy month.
Saudi Arabia declares Eid al-Fitr to start on Sunday. The Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, will begin on Sunday in Saudi Arabia, authorities in the kingdom said on Friday.

Eid Mubarak or (Arabic: ??? ?????) is an Arabic term that means “Blessed Feast/festival”. The term is used by Arab Muslims, as well as Muslims all over the world. In the social sense, people usually celebrate Eid al-Fitr after Ramadan and Eid-al-Adha in the month of Dhul Hijjah (the 12th and final Islamic month).
Islam teaches that God is merciful, all-powerful, and unique, and has guided mankind through prophets, revealed scriptures, and natural signs.
Fasting. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship. Muslims believe that Ramadan teaches them to practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate, thus encouraging actions of generosity and compulsory charity (zakat).
Wishing a coworker "Happy Ramadan" isn't offensive or inaccurate. Most Muslims use the Arabic translation "Ramadan Mubarak" to greet each other. You can also say "Ramadan Kareem," which means "have a generous Ramadan," according to USA Today.
