It has been known for some time that Intel's 7th generation Core processor family (Kaby Lake) would not work in Z370 chipset motherboards designed for 8th generation Core processors (Coffee Lake) even though both use the same LGA 1151 socket. mandate from Intel is to block Kaby Lake on A370 boards.
But even using the same physical socket (LGA1151,) Coffee Lake processors are not compatible with previous motherboards, that use 200-series and 100-series chipsets. They are only compatible with motherboard with 300-series chipsets. Until today, all the motherboards for Coffee Lake CPUs were based on this chipset.
Which is the best motherboard for Coffee Lake CPUs?

9th and 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Desktop Processors use an LGA1151 socket. However, they require motherboards based on Intel® 300 Series Chipset.
AMD CPU Socket Types and Compatibility
Our AMD CPU socket list will show you which AMD CPUs and motherboards are compatible. The most precise and simple method of determining which CPUs and motherboards will work together is to see if they share the same CPU socket.GA-H110M-A (rev. 1.0) GIGABYTE 100 series motherboards support the latest 6th Generation Intel® Core™ processors, a 14nm desktop CPU which features improved performance, power efficiency and support for DDR4 memory, bringing cutting edge features and ultimate performance to your next PC build.
The list of MSI's Z370-based motherboards that support Intel's 9th Gen Core processors with the new BIOSes are as follows: MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming. MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon AC. MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon.
Answer: Yes, you can run Nvidia graphics card in the AMD motherboard and vice versa. The only requirement is that your motherboard should a PCI Express x16 graphics card slot. Note: You may face some performance issues if you use the older PCI Express interface/slot with a newer PCI Express interface/slot.
Choosing a Motherboard
- Choosing a Motherboard.
- Form factor.
- Processor socket type.
- Choosing a motherboard.
- Choose the right chipset.
- Make sure the motherboard supports the exact processor you plan to use.
- Choose a board with flexible host bus speeds.
- Make sure the board supports the type and amount of memory you need.
Gigabyte bios update
- Mash the DEL key to kingdom come.
- Navigate to Q-Flash – you may need to press the ALT key to bring up the Q-Flash shortcut from the BIOS menu.

To check compatibility of your motherboard for processors, you need to confirm the socket of that motherboard and the processor. For example, Intel Core i7-8700K is not compatible with the Z270 motherboards even though both use the socket LGA-1151.
9th and 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Desktop Processors use an LGA1151 socket. These processors aren't backward compatible with motherboards based on Intel® 200 Series Chipset and Intel® 100 Series Chipset.
Intel B365 chipset The Intel®B365 is a single-chipset design that supports Socket 1151 for 9th Gen and 8th Gen Intel® Core™, Pentium® Gold and Celeron® processors.
