Slightly smaller than the Antonov Condor, Lockheed's C-5 Galaxy is the largest aircraft routinely operated by the U.S. military. With a payload capacity of almost 240,000 pounds, the Lockheed Galaxy is capable of carrying two M1 Abrams main battle tanks, 16 Humvees, or a variety of other vehicles.
Britain's Royal Air Force began developing four-engine long-range bombers only in the late 1930s. The RAF concentrated its efforts on night bombing.

The US Air Force's secretive new B-21 stealth bomber will take to the skies soon. The B-21 Raider is set for its first flight in December 2021, Air Force Magazine reports, although it will not be ready for combat operations until the mid-2020s.
In military aviation, a wing is a unit of command. In most military aviation services, a wing is a relatively large formation of planes. In Commonwealth countries a wing usually comprises three squadrons, with several wings forming a group (around 10 squadrons). Each squadron will contain around 20 planes.
There are 58 still in active service and 18 in reserve out of 744 that were built, but the current shrunken fleet isn't due to attrition so much as to a series of strategic arms treaties with the Soviet Union and Russia that restrict the total number of bombers.
The UK has no need for strategic bombers because multirole fighters are capable of delivering any non-nuclear ordnance, in sufficient quantities, that the UK would ever need to deliver and the UK's nuclear deterrent (Trident) is now entirely submarine based (so nuclear capable strategic bombers are no longer necessary)
Boeing built 744 B-52s and delivered the last, a B-52H, in October 1962. Only the H model is still in the Air Force inventory; it is assigned to Air Force Global Strike Command.
Heavy bombers, a staple of 20th century warfare, are largely obsolete in modern times, largely because of developments in ICBM and cruise missile technology. The delivery of small bombs is usually done by light, medium or fighter-bombers.

Jump inside the XB-70 Valkyrie, the largest and fastest bomber that the US ever built
- It was the "largest and fastest bomber" that the US ever built, according to The National Interest.
- The XB-70 Valkyrie could cruise at Mach 3, riding its own shock wave to do so, and could hit altitudes of 70,000 feet.
The Tupolev Tu-160 (NATO designation Blackjack) was developed during the Cold War. This strategic bomber was intended to attack the most important American targets. Dwarfing the similar-looking B-1B Lancer, it is the largest and heaviest combat aircraft ever built.
A bomber is a combat aircraft designed to attack ground and naval targets by dropping air-to-ground weaponry (such as bombs), launching torpedoes, or deploying air-launched cruise missiles. There are two major classifications of bomber, strategic, and tactical.

Here's what the US Air Force has planned for all its bombers. The US's three bombers — the B-1B Lancer, the B-2 Spirit, and the B-52 Stratofortress — will be joined or replaced by the B-21 Raider stealth bomber. The B-52 is expected to fly through the 2050s, and the B-2 accomplished a number of firsts this summer.
It can fly over 12 000 km without the need to refuel. Currently the B-2 Spirit is the best bomber ever built. The Tupolev Tu-160 (NATO designation Blackjack) was developed during the Cold War. This strategic bomber was intended to attack the most important American targets.
Bockscar. Bockscar, sometimes called Bock's Car, is the name of the United States Army Air Forces B-29 bomber that dropped a Fat Man nuclear weapon over the Japanese city of Nagasaki during World War II in the second – and last – nuclear attack in history.
The B-17 Hell's Angels (41-24577) of the 303rd Bomb Group completed 25 combat missions on 13 May 1943, becoming the first B-17 to complete the feat, one week before the Memphis Belle.
Because of these reasons, Great Britain and the United States produced the most advanced bombers and the largest bomber forces of World War 2.
Entering service in 1987, the Tu-160 was the last strategic bomber designed for the Soviet Union. As of 2016, the Russian Air Force's Long Range Aviation branch has at least 16 aircraft in service. The Tu-160 active fleet has been undergoing upgrades to electronics systems since the early 2000s.
During WWII, B-26s dropped thousands of bombs.
The U.S. Air Force bought 21 B-2 stealth bombers from Northrop Grumman in the 1980s and 1990s at a price of more than $2 billion apiece, if you count development costs. One crashed on Guam in 2008, leaving 20 in the active fleet.
