For some women this is a reliable, simple sign. As you get close to ovulation, your cervical mucus will become copious, clear and slippery—like egg whites. It stretches between your fingers. Once your discharge becomes scant and sticky again, ovulation is over.
Ovulation usually happens between days 11 and 21 of your cycle. A hormone called luteinizing hormone (LH) surges, triggering the release of the egg that's most ripe. At the same time, your cervical mucus becomes more slippery to help sperm make their way to the egg.
Occasionally some women have an LH surge that is too low for the test to detect, or they do not ovulate during a cycle and in this case they may see lots of High Fertility days but no Peak Fertility. This is not unusual and may happen in approximately 8% of cycles.
However, because ovulation usually happens between 4 pm and 7 pm the evening before the next morning's temperature rise, you will need to have sex that morning, (if you haven't already the night before) but even then it may be too late.
Flashing smiley – High FertilityIf the user has intercourse today she will increase her chance of getting pregnant, but she must also test again the following day. The result will be displayed for 8 minutes.
When the amount of estrogen reaches its upper threshold, the egg is ready for release. The brain then produces a surge of luteinizing hormone (LH), triggering ovulation. The release of the egg from the follicle and ovary happens about 24 hours later (10–12 hours after LH peaks) (13, 17).
These peak fertile days are the day prior to ovulation and the day that ovulation takes place. Studies show that a surge in LH level occurs 24-36 hours prior to ovulation,2 and that this LH surge is an accurate and reliable marker of impending ovulation.
Most doctors advise having sex every other day during your fertile window. success when trying to conceive, many women are tempted to exercise more than the recommended amount. This can over-stress your body, and change the pattern of your cycle, delaying or even eliminating ovulation.
Absence of ovulationSome causes of anovulation include PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), obesity, low body weight, hyperprolactinemia (high blood levels of the hormone prolactin), and high stress levels (6).
"Most pregnancies result from sex that happened less than 2 days before ovulation," Manglani says. But you can get pregnant earlier or later. "Sperm can live in fertile cervical mucus for up to 5 days," she says. An egg can live up to 24 hours after ovulation.
Having sex every day even during ovulation will not necessarily increase your chances of getting pregnant. "In general, every other night around the time of ovulation helps increase your chance of getting pregnant," Goldfarb says. Sperm can live up to 5 days inside your body.
Can I get pregnant if the ovulation test is negative? If the test is performed correctly and the LH surge has not yet occurred, you cannot get pregnant. But in the case of a false negative or low sensitivity of the test, it is possible to become pregnant if you have sex on the days of expected ovulation.
