University of North Carolina at Charlotte reported 485 safety-related incidents involving students while on campus in 2018. Of the 4,210 colleges and universities that reported crime and safety data, 4,056 of them reported fewer incidents than this.The nickname of the athletic team is the 49ers, indicative of the fact that UNC Charlotte (then Charlotte College) was saved from permanent closure in 1949.
