Neither the SAT nor the ACT is “easier” or “harder” than the other – but different types of students usually do MUCH better on one than they do on the other. This is problematic, because certain students are practically built to take the ACT, and will find themselves struggling with the SAT – and vice versa.

Yale has adopted a one-year test-optional policy for first-year applicants in the 2020-2021 admissions cycle and will not consider SAT Subject Tests.

As announced previously, SAT Subject Tests will not be considered during the 2020-2021 admissions cycle. Transfer applicants and students who intend to apply for admission to enroll in fall 2022 or later should plan to complete the ACT or SAT by the appropriate deadlines.
