Backlit model (AGS-101)The box states "Now with a BRIGHTER backlit screen!" to distinguish the new model from the older, frontlit models. The backlit SP has the Model Number AGS-101 on the label on the bottom of the unit, whereas the original frontlit SP has the Model Number AGS-001.
In 2002, Nintendo of America launched an international marketing campaign for the Game Boy Advance that revolved around the slogan "Who Are You?"--asking potential buyers which Nintendo character, game, or even device they identified with and attempting to sell a new product by exploiting players' nostalgic connections
This was the best Game Boy model ever and I won't hear any arguments

The main differences are: The Game Boy Advance SP is much smaller, and has a flip-up screen. The screen on the Game Boy Advance SP is lit. There is a rechargeable battery in the Game Boy Advance SP.
Apparently, the Game Boy Advance has, hidden away, a contrast adjustment potentiometer that can be turned to brighten or darken the Game Boy Advance's LCD screen. The Game Boy Color and NeoGeo Pocket Color systems also had this feature, and it was just as well hidden as the GBA's.
The original Game Boy Advance SP has a front-lit screen and is the dimmer model called the AGS-001. This frontlight tends to have a dim blue light that can be turned on or off completely. The later AGS-101 model is the brighter backlit version of the SP.
The only reason I could see going with the Game Boy color is if you plan on playing a lot of original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games. They're bigger than GBA games and will stick out the top/bottom of the GBA/SP (respectively). The GBA can play GameBoy Color titles too, even Pokemon Red and Blue.
Backlit SPs are more expensive than normal frontlit ones. The 101 version of the SP is just a rarer model and requires no modding in order to just work with a backlit screen which is another reason why that one is in demand. As for the original SP, it's portability and bigger screen size compared to the DS.

As for collectors value… value on the collector market is based on rarity, and Nintendo's handheld consoles routinely break records for sales. Rare, Gameboys and DSs are not.
There is actually nothing special about the game, but because of the demand and the rarity, the Game Boy Micro is expensive. Over the last few years the GameBoy micro has increased in price substantially because of the demand for the product and because there are no more being made.

Just the SP and whatever the slightly upgraded SP that was released afterwards, have a rechargeable battery. The original GBA model just uses regular batteries.
The Recharge Indicator LED (the lower of the two indictor lights) will light up to indicate charging. The LED will turn OFF when the battery is fully charged.
Turn on the power by pushing the Power Switch towards the screen. Note: The LCD screen light will automatically come on when the unit is first turned on. To turn the light off, press the Screen Light Switch (the small button above the Control Pad and A, B buttons).
The GBA was having problems moving software, at least by Nintendo's standards. It's attach rate was similar to the GB/GBC at 4.6 games per unit, but unlike the GB which picked up a LOT of software sales late in its life, the GBA's software sales were diving off a cliff overall by 2004.
Calculating the size of the NES to GBA libraries, it would take 16.4 Gb to store.
Several redesigns were released during the console's lifetime, including the Game Boy Pocket in 1996 and the Game Boy Light in 1998 (Japan only). Production of the Game Boy continued into the early 2000s, even after the release of its second successor, the Game Boy Advance, in 2001. Production ceased in 2003.
Game Boy Advance Games will work on the Game Boy Micro, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, DS, and DS Lite Systems. They will not work on the DSi, DSi XL, or the 3DS.
At the time of its release in the United States, the Nintendo DS retailed for US$149.99.
