They don't like sheep, hogs, chickens, or milk goats. You can milk a cow for your family's health and enjoyment. It's the sweetest milk you will ever drink. You can stand beside them and watch their horns grow right before your very eyes.
Selection for longer horns allowed them to defend against wild predators. They became leaner and more able to survive heat and drought. "The Longhorns that were in the area when Anglo settlers arrived almost looked more like the ancestral aurochsen than like modern cattle breeds," said McTavish.Mar 25, 2013

For the most part, Texas Longhorn bull horns will grow very well when the animal is 6 to 36 months of age, at which time, the horns will begin to slow down in growth somewhat. By the time the Texas Longhorn bull has reached the age of 24 months, the fastest phase of horn growth will have ended.Jan 29, 2020

- Horn Length. We all know horn length is the number one determining factor in pricing of Texas Longhorns.
- Pedigree. I particularly like to look at a bull's dam, grand-dams, and great grand-dams.
- Temperament. Temperament is extremely important since it is a factor that is highly heritable.
- Conformation.
- Color.
They may be similar in color and are both conical in shape. In cattle, the horn sheath (keratin) forms a conical shell which covers a horn core (bone) attached to the skull. The keratin sheath of cattle horn is hollow on the inside (see Figures 1 and 2) once separated from the skull.
Brahmans vary in colour from very light grey or red to almost black. A majority of the breed are light to medium grey. Mature bulls are normally darker than cows and usually have dark areas on the neck, shoulders and lower thighs.
Both male and female cattle grow horns and cattle do not shed their horns seasonally. Despite the cow toy industries seeming need to place horns on every stuffed Holstein, I bet most people have never seen a dairy cow that has horns.Jan 3, 2012
