The exams are what you study and work towards throughout your HSC year. Your exam results contribute the other 50 percent of your final HSC mark for a course. You will sit written exams at the same time as everyone else in the state studying the same course.
The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC/INTERMEDIATE) is a public examination in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. HSC is equivalent to GCE A Level in England and 3rd and 4th year of high Schools in the United States.
In NSW, you have to study at least eight ATAR “unitsâ€, of which six have to be what are called Category A, plus two units of English. Category A units are defined as having “academic rigour†and a “depth of knowledge†required for tertiary studies.
The Higher School Certificate (HSC) is a certificate that recognises the successful completion of secondary education in New South Wales. It is a valuable pathway to further study at university or TAFE institutes, and to the world of work.

2001: More than 64,000 students sit first HSC exams based on current structure, which includes Extension courses, VET courses, standards based reporting of mark. English remains compulsory. Completion of 4 subjects replaced the Breadth of Study requirement.
English Extension 1 has more content that you learn at a faster pace than Advanced. You also need to be doing more advanced and sophisticated analysis, doing work outside of class time and taking a lot of initiative if you want to be achieving awesome marks.
The new Year 11 & 12 (Stage 6) Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics Syllabus was introduced from the 2018 Year 11 cohort. The syllabus introduced new content not taught in the previous syllabus.
Each student's English exams will be marked by a minimum of 11 markers and each maths paper will be marked by at least six markers. The last exam is on 9 November and students will get their HSC results on 13 December and their ATARs on 14 December.
Getting your resultsHSC results are available in Students Online and sent to students by email and SMS in December. Students can also download and print their full credentials from Students Online in December. Hard copies of the testamur (certificate) are sent in the mail in January the following year.
If your high school was anything like mine-a generic public high school with the demographic of students ranging from uninterested drop-outs to academic geniuses-an average ATAR score above 70 was considered a great result.
Students who do not want an ATAR, but do want a recognised school credential. Students who want an HSC that includes nationally recognised qualifications through vocational education and training (VET) and TAFE courses. Eligible VET courses can count toward an ATAR.
Why it's impossible to get an ATAR of 100.Because the ATAR is a rank and not a score, and it's measured in increments of 0.05 the highest ATAR you could get is 99.95. That means you did better than 99.95 percent of all the Year 12 ATAR eligible students in your state.
ATAR stands for Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank. It is a number between zero and 99.95 that tells you where you rank in your year group. So an ATAR of 70 doesn't mean you got 70 percent – it means that you're in the top 30 percent of your year group.
The percentages on the right column are of people who received an ATAR. So both of the stats are correct – to get an ATAR of 80 you need to beat 80% of the graduating population, which means beating 66.5% of the people who receive an ATAR. As for getting an ATAR of 80 – its not impossible.Work hard.
Anyway, an ATAR of 70 isn't really hard to achieve – almost all people can achieve it if they put in some effort. The ATAR is a number from 0 and 99.95 in intervals of 0.05. The highest rank is 99.95, the next highest 99.90, and so on.
Do my year 11 marks count? Towards your ATAR? Nope. Your ATAR is a combination of your marks from the HSC exams and your assessment marks from year 12 only.
The HSC mark is a 50:50 combination of a student's examination mark and school-based assessment mark for each course.
