"Our ruleset doesn't necessarily make a ton of sense for how the game is right now," Hazzikostas said, explaining that since 2005, the rules governing open-world PvP haven't really been updated. That's set to change with Battle for Azeroth. First up, PvP servers are going away entirely.
Benediction is an absolutely fantastic server! About 60% Horde, 40% Alliance.

IIRC he plays on the PVP realm. Be my guest tough. Yeah, while he has 100000x fanbois and Esfand with him too… ClassicBetaPvP or Kel'Thuzad on retail.
In World of Warcraft, Player vs. Player (commonly abbreviated PvP) denotes combat between players of any kind, including duels, battlegrounds, world PvP and Arena matches. The term is used in contrast to Player vs. Environment (PvE), which involves the player battling computer-controlled opponents or game elements.
Normal servers are best if you just want to have a good time leveling up and doing PvE content. While playing on these servers, PvP is entirely optional. That means you won't get unexpectedly ganked by high-level players, but this also diminishes the social interaction of WoW.
It matters if you are into gold making. Low pop realms means lower competition but slower sales while high pop ones the opposite. If you are on an RP realm, you get better chances for transmog sales. So yes, realms matter if you are into competitive raiding and/or gold making.
RP servers are Normal PvE servers where you have to flag your self for PvP, with extra rules to encourage RP. RP-PvP servers are PvP servers with PvP enabled at all times in contested areas. With those extra rules. RP just add some extra rules and attracts a lot of RP players, which makes the game so much more fun!
War Mode is the only way to participate in open-world PvP. You can opt-in from your talent pane while in your faction's major capital city—Stormwind for the Alliance, and Orgrimmar for the Horde. While in War Mode, you receive a 10% bonus to experience and gold, but can only interact with other War Mode players.
Currently it is only possible to enable warmode when you are high enough to access the talent screen, which is normally at level 15. Despite this soft-limit of level 15, there is no restriction on the server preventing lower-level players from enabling warmode using the in-game C_API call.
War Mode allows players on any realm to participate in open-world PvP with like-minded players in the ongoing battle between the Horde and the Alliance. Turning on War Mode applies the [Enlisted] buff and provides incentives to compensate for the perceived risk of being targettable by the opposing faction.
Is warmode live? If so, how do I activate it? Go to your main city (Stormwind on Alliance, Orgrimmar on Horde). Go to the talents tab and there will be a button on the right that says "Enable war mode", just toggle it on and you're done.
There are about 200 realms in North America and other realms in different parts of the world.
PVE stands for 'Player vs. Environment", while PVP stands for 'Player vs. Player'. In PVP worlds, players still work against the same types of NPC combatants and encounters that PVE players do, but are also subject to attack from other players anywhere in the open world.
In World of Warcraft, Player vs. Player (commonly abbreviated PvP) denotes combat between players of any kind such as: Dueling - One versus one combat in a controlled environment. Players create teams and boost their Team Rating to earn Arena Points by beating similarly rated teams.
