Caran d'ache does not do oil-based pencils and instead, their pencils are wax. Pablos are much harder, not as opaque as Luminance, and they don't have the same blendability.
The pencils are very light in the hand and have a dense 3.3mm lead which seems strong and solid. The pencils are oil based, like Polychromos, but feel a little harder. You have to use quite a bit of pressure to eliminate all white spots, but a normal stroke gives a brilliant amount of pigment.
Oil pastel pencils have the same buttery texture and rich colors as traditional oil paints and pastels, but are easier to use when adding fine detail and color accents.
Some have experienced breakage with Prismacolor because of the soft wax they are made of, and have moved to Arteza because they are firmer for detail type of work. Others who are looking for a buttery, easy application that they can manipulate, believe Prismacolor is the way to go.
