Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) is the department of the Government of Canada responsible for developing, managing and delivering social programs and services.
There are many reasons Canadians may have an uncashed cheque from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). For example, someone may have moved and not updated their address, or the cheque may have been lost, stolen, or destroyed.
Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) works to improve the standard of living and quality of life for all Canadians. We do this by promoting a labour force that is highly skilled. We also promote an efficient and inclusive labour market.
- The easiest way to pay is through your online banking service. CRA 's “My Payment” is not available to pay an ESDC debt.
- Select "Employment and Social Development Canada" as the payee if available on your financial institution's website. Your account number is on your statement of account.
Some of the reasons the CRA may callyou owe tax or money to a government program. A collections officer may call you to discuss your file and ask you to make a payment. In this case, you may need to provide some information about your household financial situation. you did not file your income tax and benefit return.
However, Service Canada and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre have confirmed these calls are fraudulent and that fraudsters are masking their phone number with legitimate government phone numbers in an effort to gain access to personal or financial information.
Best time to call EI call centre are Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 9:30am, Wednesday and Thursday all day. Service Canada EI call centre phone number: 1-800-206-7218.
Plus, CRA agents don't leave any personal information of any kind on messages. In fact, the CRA rarely calls taxpayers. If you get a call or a voicemail message that sounds like a robotic pre-recorded message claiming to be from the CRA, it's a scam for sure.
In a few cases, some Canadians who received CERB through Service Canada will need to apply for EI benefits. Canadians who are EI eligible and who received CERB through the CRA but continue to be eligible for financial assistance once the 28 weeks of CERB has been used up will need to apply for EI benefits.
If you earn money while receiving EI benefits, you can keep 50 cents of your benefits for every dollar you earn, up to 90 percent of your previous weekly earnings (roughly four and a half days of work). Above this cap, your EI benefits are deducted dollar-for-dollar.
