London Zoo is to end a 170-year tradition and move its elephants out of the city. The announcement comes after an elephant at the zoo crushed a worker to death. The three elephants will move to a more open enclosure and will join a breeding bull and two pregnant elephants at Whipsnade.

There are plenty of good exhibits and some of the newer enclosures are very good indeed, but for good reasons most of the larger animals are now at Whipsnade but there is still a Tiger and Lion exhibit, plus the giraffe house. The aquarium is an old exhibit but it was still a very good example.

Tiger Territory
The zoo currently owns one tiger: a male named Asim, who arrived from Denmark in January 2019. Asim killed the zoo's female tiger, 10-year old Melati, on 8 February 2019. Melati's previous mate, Jae-Jae, was moved to France the previous month.Josephine. Josephine was a great Indian hornbill who, for many years, was the oldest animal in the Zoo. She lived in the Bird House until her death in 1998 aged 53.

London Zoo was home to the world's first public aquarium, built in 1853. Many of the freshwater fish have been relocated to, and will be on display at, ZSL Whipsnade zoo in their new aquarium which was opened in summer this year.
