Luckily, there's an all-natural alternative: swimming holes and lakes, many of which are only a day trip from St. Louis. The lake is large, the water is clear, and there are lots of other activities allowed nearby, including fishing, hiking, and ATV-riding.

Missouri is not necessarily known for its beach scene, but the landlocked state has many sandy spots that are great for a swim and a day in the sun. There are many public beaches in the state parks throughout Missouri around the Lake of the Ozarks.

Since the lakes, as well as the country club, marinas, and several park areas, are private property of the community association, they are not available for use by non-members. This means that many residents of the city are not permitted to use the lakes, because their property is not covered by LSLCA membership.
Creve Coeur Lake formed several thousand years ago when a meander loop of the Missouri River was cut off. The original lake varied in depth from 10 to 30 feet and covered over 400 acres. The lake was approximately two and a half miles long and one mile wide during this period, which made it a big attraction.
Creve Coeur City Council considers ordinance to allow alcohol in city parks by permit. Alcohol is currently banned in most parks in the City of Creve Coeur. An ordinance adopted in 1987 specifically bans alcohol in Beirne Park, Lake School Park, Conway Park and Malcolm Terrace Park.
No swimming or gas boats are permitted because the lake is stocked with wildlife from the Missouri Department of Conservation. There are designated fishing areas throughout the park and multiple fishing events take place throughout the year. Creve Coeur Lake recently underwent an Asian carp removal project.

Creve Coeur is a nice place to live because it's relatively close to St Louis City and other cool areas, but it has a nice, relaxed suburban feel. There's not a ton to do within the suburb, which doesn't really matter because it's so close to other towns and suburbs, but there are some good restaurants.
Do you need a license to operate a motorized kayak in Missouri? Yes. Operation of any vessel in Missouri requires a license or boating safety identification card.
You take the park road all the way to the end where there is a parking lot. You do have to carry your kayak or canoe approximately 400 feet/100 yards to the water.

Cuivre River State Park has canoes, kayaks, and tandem kayaks available to rent for use on Lake Lincoln. On the day of your reservation, go to the campground check station to check in and recieve your paddle(s), life vests, and key to unlock your watercraft. You must be 18 or older to reserve a watercraft.
