Using this drug, even as prescribed, can lead to physical dependence and withdrawal if you stop taking the drug suddenly. Withdrawal can be life threatening. Taking this drug can also lead to misuse and addiction. Misuse of diazepam increases your risk for overdose and death.
The physiological effects of diazepam only last about 5 hours. However, diazepam is a long acting benzo that stays in your system for several days. The half-life of Valium is 20 hours.
Ambien (zolpidem) and Valium (diazepam) are used for treating insomnia. Valium is used off-label to treat insomnia; it is approved to treat anxiety, seizures, muscle spasms, and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

Doctors warn the authenticity of diazepam bought online cannot be trusted. It is illegal to possess without a prescription. The medicines regulator said selling such drugs was a "serious offence". Its figures, for tablets that tested positive for diazepam, do not include the number of fake pills being seized.
Adults—10 milligrams (mg) 3 or 4 times for the first 24 hours, then 5 mg 3 to 4 times per day as needed. Older adults—At first, 2 to 2.5 mg 1 or 2 times a day. Your doctor will gradually increase your dose as needed.
The fake valium pills are often coloured with blue food dye to make them look like the genuine valium pills, leaving users with blue lips. Sold on the street, there is no regulation over what they contain. Substitute chemicals are often highly dangerous, especially if combined with other drugs.
Anxiety: 0.12 to 1 mg per pound once per day as needed. Seizures: 0.23 to 0.9 mg per pound, usually administered rectally. For sedation: 0.11 mg per pound every 8 hours.

Beta blockers and Valium (diazepam) are used to treat anxiety. Valium belongs to a different drug class called benzodiazepines that are often prescribed for anxiety.
Doctors generally recommend the drug should be used at dosages of 2-10 mg. This amount can be taken up to four times in a 24-hour time frame. The maximum daily total use in milligrams should not exceed 40 mg. Anything above the level prescribed by your doctor could lead to an overdose.
