Anyway, because the Destin area is larger than the Gulf Shores area, there's simply more options. There's also more bars closer together in Destin along the main strip than Gulf Shores. While you can definitely have a good time at both Destin and Gulf Shores at night, Destin wins this one!
CLEAR, BLUE, WARM WATERSWhen we head to Alabama's beaches, we enjoy paddleboarding (yes, the water is that gentle), walking along the water's edge, and floating on tubes.
The main difference between Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, AL that I found was that Orange Beach feels a little quieter and less hectic (or put another way, Gulf Shores feels like it has a little more going on).
The best times to visit Gulf Shores are March through May and September through November. Travelers can take advantage of these sweet spots outside the busy (and more expensive) summertime and enjoy swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, which still offers pleasant temperatures in the late spring and early fall.
Safety scores place Gulf Shores not in a very good spot in terms of safety. The crime rate in Gulf Shores is 68% higher than the average of the USA, but most of its safety issues are not impacted by violent crimes.

Gulf Shores, Alabama is famous for its pristine white beaches, but hiking trails give landlubbers plenty of flora and fauna to find in the area. The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail in Gulf State Park covers more than 28 miles that take you through nine different ecosystems.
