The main difference between the two machines is size — excavators are larger and heavier, while backhoes are slightly smaller. The excavator is typically a better fit for demolition projects, mining, driving piles, drilling shafts for rock blasting, and overall large-scale industrial projects.

The 450E is in the 17-ft. (5.2 m) dig depth class and is the largest backhoe loader in the Caterpillar line. The 450E has 124 net hp (92.5 kW) and a backhoe digging depth of 17 ft.
Its backhoe can dig with 15,200 pounds (67.6 kN) of force and can reach more than 25.9 feet (7.9 meters) away.
You can expect an average backhoe weight to be about 15,000 pounds (6,803 kg). This is about 5 times the weight of an average car. Generally the heavier a backhoe is, the more weight it can handle.
Mini or Small – Backhoes that can dig between 9 and 10 feet typically cost $25,000 to $35,000. Large – Backhoes that can dig between 15 and 16 feet typically fetch $75,000 to $110,000. Larger – Anything over 16 feet tends to cost well over $100,000.
The Case 580D weighs 13,500#, and I have a 300# ditch witch that needs to run w the hoe, so let's call it a 14,000# load.
You may find that in CA if your combined weight RATING is greater than 26,001# (which it is), AND the trailer weight RATING is greater than 10,000# (which it is), you need a Class A license. CA DMV can advise.

Typically the most common skid steers weigh between 2000 lbs to 10,500 lbs! The average weight is closer to 7,500 lbs. These machines can do some serious work, but can also cause serious damage if people are careless. All your workers should be trained to operate the skid steer safely.
This cat's unique trait is that he can reliably target metals while ignoring other traits that may get in the way, but, if not for that, his stats make him a rather unreliable and inefficient critical hitter compared to others; for this reason, it's best not to use him in purely metal stages, unless you have empty
However, if that same contractor wants to add other services, a backhoe might be a wise investment. “If you're going to be consistently excavating or moving large amounts of materials, a backhoe may be a more efficient choice because of its larger size and greater power,” Giorgianni says.

Use. Backhoe loaders are very common and can be used for a wide variety of tasks: construction, small demolitions, light transportation of building materials, powering building equipment, digging holes/excavation, landscaping, breaking asphalt, and paving roads.
With a more powerful engine, higher operating weight and larger fuel tank, the Cat 342F is able to handle heavier and tougher workloads. While the JCB 3CX offers a much lower price point with only a slight reduction in power and little-to-no loss at all when it comes to maximum dig depth and reach.

Re: Terex 760 backhoe
The terex is a good strong heavy machine and there is no one specific problem they have but they are more problem prone IMO than other brands such as deere and cat. They are not as hard as JCB to get parts for but again, not as easy as finding a Deere or Cat part.
