- Section your hair according to the lock size of your choice starting from the nape, forming a square at the base. Secure the sections with elastic bands.
- Insert the hook at the tip of the dread.
All dreadlocks are dirty.
Dreadlocks are only dirty if you don't take care of them and wash them. Not washing dreadlocks is the best way to ruin dreadlocks. You should wash your dreadlocks at least once a week.Washing Dreadlocks
It is good practice to squeeze as much water out of them by hand as possible before wrapping them with a dry thirsty towel for about 10 min and then finally letting them air dry or drying them with a hair dryer. This will ensure that the dreadlocks dry all the way through.A lot of women won't or don't get dreads because they believe dreads are permanent. Dreads are not permanent, just like anything else with hair (with the exception of cutting it off or bubble gum snips) it can be undone.
* The only way to remove dreads is to shave your head, or cut them off very close to the scalp. * If you don't shave your head, removing dreadlocks is painful and damaging to the scalp and hair. Fact: * It is possible to have dreads, and then remove them no matter how long you may have had them.

You can swim with dreads. Chlorine won't hurt them and salt water can help them mature. You'll always find some new loose hair after swimming but it can easily be taken care of with a Loose Hair Tool. More squeezing and wringing them out in a towel is often required especially for all but the thinnest dreadlocks.
Most will dread within about three to six months, but others take a little bit longer. The softer your texture is, the longer it may take for it to really dread and lock up into one full lock, but it does take some time. Dreads under I would say, about a year are considered young dreads, so they're a little softer.
