You can format the system to remove the Nintendo Network ID without deleting it. Nintendo Network accounts removed in this way will not be deleted from the Wii U (if linked), and can be relinked to the same Nintendo 3DS system again in the future.
If you choose to format your 3DS, you will lose all of your data (except for maybe photos and sound recordings), and you will be unable to re-download it for free from the eShop, even if you have it on an SD card. Format your 3DS, supposedly only erases the 3DS saved data.
- From the HOME menu, select System Settings.
- Select Nintendo Network ID Settings, then select Next.
- Select Link an Existing ID.
- Read through the information regarding Nintendo eShop, Country settings, account deletion, linking, and Parental Controls.
Learn more about How to Access the Nintendo Network ID Settings Menu. Select Profile Settings. Update the gender, region, time zone, and e-mail address as needed. You can view the birthdate and country, but these cannot be changed on the system.
On a linked Wii U console: Open the user-selection screen—your ID will be displayed there in orange lettering, just below your nickname. On a linked system in the Nintendo 3DS family: Open System Settings, and then Nintendo Network ID Settings. Your ID will be displayed on the sign-in screen, just below your nickname.
You can delete your Nintendo Account by selecting "Delete Account" from the Profile menu. After the deactivation period has passed, your Nintendo Account will be deleted permanently and you will lose all your data associated with it, such as: Mission status, points and rewards in the My Nintendo rewards programme.

What's the difference between a Nintendo Network ID and a Nintendo Account? The short answer is that an NNID is used to make purchases on the Wii U and 3DS, while a Nintendo Account is used to make purchases on the Switch.
Tab to the right in the Other Settings menu and select System Transfer. The systems will connect to the internet. Select Transfer from a System in the Nintendo 3DS Family on both machines. On the new system that you want to move the data to (Target System), select Receive from Nintendo 3DS.
From System Settings
- From the HOME Menu, select System Settings.
- Scroll down the options on the left and select Users. Then select the user profile you wish to edit.
Go to the Nintendo Account website. Enter the sign-in information that you used to create your Nintendo Account: For Nintendo Account sign in: Enter the email address and password associated to your account, then click Sign in.
To change the region on your console, select Settings from the main menu. Scroll down to the bottom and select System. Select Region from the System menu. Choose the region you want to switch to from the pop up that appears.
This is not the Nintendo Network ID.
- Visit the Forgot NNID website.
- Enter the E-Mail Address associated with your account into the appropriate field.
- Select either Birth Date or Nickname.
- Select Send.
Unfortunately, the 3DS NetFlix app is permanently set to default to the main user account, which in your case is your father's. There is no way to change it. There is no way to switch.

- Scroll down to User ID and click Edit.
- On the next page, re-enter your password and click OK.
- Next, create your unique User ID and click Save.
- Click the checkbox next to Nintendo Network ID.
- On the next page, log into your Nintendo Network ID, then click Sign In.
To transfer them you would need to be able to do a system transfer and for that you need both systems working. You will need to give Nintendo a call at 1-800-255-3700 and ask them to unlink your NNID from your damaged console so that you may link it to your new system.
Unfortunately, Nintendo is unable to track a stolen system for you. I would recommend talking to your local police department and they can keep their eyes open in case anything comes up.
Go to and sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- Select "Sign-in and security settings," then select “Edit” in the “Change Password” section.
- Enter your current password, then select “OK.”
- Re-enter the current password if prompted, and click "OK."
- Enter and confirm a new password.
Go to and sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- Click "User Information", then scroll down to the "Linked Accounts" section and click "Change".
- To unlink an NNID from your Nintendo Account, click the checkmark next to "Nintendo Network ID" to remove the link.
Press and hold down the Power button until the 3DS turns off. This may take about 10 seconds. Press the Power button again to turn the 3DS back on.
If you forget your PIN, it's possible to reset it by following these steps:
- Open the System Settings software from the HOME Menu.
- Select Parental Controls and tap "Forgot PIN".
- You will be prompted to enter the answer to your secret question. Once entered, you will gain access to the Parental Controls front page.
To reset your 2DS or 3DS, open the "System Settings" app, choose "Other Settings" and scroll right to pick "Format System Memory." Tap "Format" to erase the system, including everything stored in system memory.
Press and hold the POWER Button down until the system resets; this may take some time. Once the system is powered down, press the POWER Button once to turn it back on.
How to Perform a Hard Reset on a Nintendo Switch
- With the system powered down, hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Release your grip on the power button, then press the power button once like normal to start the console.
- Your console should restart without any issue. Congrats!
Hold down the system's power button for ten seconds for a hard reset, which will shut the console down. You can then turn it back on as normal. Should you notice the console starting to freeze more often, Nintendo recommends updating to the latest system software.
