Are all of your contacts saved to your Google account (as opposed to the Phone account)? If so, try going to Settings>Apps, tap Menu>Show System, select Contacts Storage, then Clear Cache/Clear Data. Then open Contacts again and give it a few seconds to re-sync with your Google account.
Merge duplicates
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app .
- At the top left, tap Menu. Suggestions.
- Tap Clean up duplicates. If you don't see this, you don't have any contacts that can be merged.
- Optional: If you'd rather choose which contacts to merge: Open your device's Contacts app .
Duplicate contacts are really common, and they happen when you're syncing contacts from multiple sources like the cloud, your email, or social media sites. In this video, we'll show you how to use your phone's menu options to merge or remove duplicate contacts.
Access your Contacts app and tap on the menu button. From the menu, tap on “Merge accounts” and from next prompt tap on “Merge from Google”. From the next prompt, tap on “OK” and all your contacts will be merged. This will merge the accounts to get rid of duplicate contacts that were created due to multiple accounts.
It's likely that your contacts list is connected to your iCloud or Google account, depending on the platform you're using. By logging into your account, either iCloud or Google Contacts, you can delete duplicate contacts here in bulk. Google Contacts has a 'find duplicates' option built in so you can quickly clean up.
Tap on the “Edit” button. Scroll down to find “Linked Contacts”, then tap on the green plus icon “(+) link contacts…” to link/merge the contact with another. Locate the contact to merge (either a duplicate or a changed addressee) and tap on the name, then tap on “Link” in the corner.
Tap on one of the duplicates and then tap the Edit button in the upper-right corner. From the Edit screen, scroll down to the bottom where it says Linked Contacts. Tap the Link Contact button and choose the other duplicate you'd like to merge. Next, you'll see the second duplicate you've chosen to link.
How to Merge Contacts on iPhone from iOS
- From the Phone app or the Contacts app, open the contact you wish to merge other duplicate contacts with.
- Tap on the “Edit” button.
- Scroll down to find “Linked Contacts”, then tap on the green plus icon “(+) link contacts…” to link/merge the contact with another.
Also, when your mobile has identical entries (same person with same number) saved multiple times in the contacts list, removing all the duplicate entries from the list becomes necessary. Such process is sometimes also referred to as merging the contacts. Merge Android contacts in One Click.
If you can't see your contacts
Make sure you have allowed WhatsApp to access your phone's contacts in your phone's Settings app. In your phone's address book, make sure that all accounts and groups are set to "visible" or "viewable".Tap on the “message” icon at the bottom right corner of the main screen. It will show you a list of the people that are on WhatsApp. Find the people through the list. But, if you don't want to find like that, you can also use the search icon on the upper right corner of the screen.
WhatsApp comes with a 'Click to Chat' feature that allows users to begin a chat with someone without having their phone number saved in your phone's address book. However, knowing the number of the person you want to chat with is a must.
