Fax machines will automatically retry calls in case the receiving end fails to answer. It is easy to adjust the number of times the machine redials by just checking your machine.
All fax numbers look exactly the same as phone numbers. The only difference between the two is that a phone number has a regular telephone attached to it, and a fax number has a fax machine attached to it.
Faxes can fail for a variety of reasons, such as sending to a non-working or non-fax number, a recipient listing their number on the National Do Not Call List, a recipient line being continually busy or out of paper, or if there is noise or interference on the line.

Fax (short for facsimile), sometimes called telecopying or telefax (the latter short for telefacsimile), is the telephonic transmission of scanned printed material (both text and images), normally to a telephone number connected to a printer or other output device.
Connect computers to the machine via parallel port, LAN, wireless LAN, or USB 2.0. To send a fax, simply select [Print] from the Windows application, then select LAN-Fax as the printer, and then specify a destination. LAN-Fax enables paperless faxing from your computer to the other destinations.
According to the Ricoh support site you can disable fax printing by turning on Memory Lock Reception. That tells the printer to store faxes in memory until the Memory Lock ID code is entered from the front panel. You will need to set up the ID, as shown here.

Your fax number is the number of the phone line connected to the fax. With a fax machine or computer running fax software, the fax number is the phone number of the attached phone line. Calling the toll-free number 1-800-444-4444 (operated by MCI) will tell you the line's phone number.
