Click on the “SMS Phone Number" button. Next, click on the "Get SMS Token" button. A 6-digit code will be sent to your cellphone number to ensure you have access to the cellphone number you entered.
Log into your Google account. Click on the Labs icon in the top-right corner of the page (it looks like a laboratory flask). Scroll down to the Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat option and click Enable. Return to your main Gmail page and put your cursor on a contact from your Chat list.
Chat with others in a file
- On your computer, open a document, spreadsheet, or presentation.
- At the top right, click Chat. . This feature won't be available if you're the only one in the file.
- Enter your message in the chat box.
- When you're finished, at the top right of the chat window, click Close .
If that's the case, make sure you (or they) don't have any browser extensions, plug-ins, themes, ad blockers, pop-up blockers, or antivirus apps installed that might be blocking or conflicting with the chat feature in Docs. You won't know that unless you turn off/disable or uninstall them all at the same time.
Android: Google Voice Typing

Log in to your Gmail account, click the gear icon and choose "Settings" from the menu to visit your account's Settings page. Click the "Chat" link near the top of the page to view the Chat settings. Click the radio buttons to enable or disable the various features.
Google docs doesn't have a built-in chat function. The other people in the doc is shown to help you see what's going on if others are live editing. Often Google Docs will load the page to where you can read it just fine, but not actually connect to other users. It seems more common in large documents.
If you work on a file at the same time as other people, you can chat with each other inside the document, spreadsheet, or presentation. Turn Voice Input On / Off - Android™
- From a Home screen, navigate: Apps icon > Settings then tap "Language & input" or "Language & keyboard".
- From the On-screen keyboard, tap Google Keyboard/Gboard.
- Tap Preferences.
- Tap the Voice input key switch to turn on or off .
Send a text message
- On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
- Open the tab for Messages .
- At the top, click Send a message.
- Enter a contact's name or phone number. To create a group text message, add up to seven names or phone numbers.
- At the bottom, enter your message and then click Send .
There is no preset limit to how many texts you can send. Each account has its own limit. We've seen reports of accounts being locked after 20 messages. But we've also seen reports of accounts which send over 400 texts each day and were never locked.
Limited to 30 messages sent *per day* but I need to contact more people. Is there a way around the limit? No. Furthermore, continued use of Google Voice to send broadcast text messages may result in your Google Voice service and its associated telephone number being suspended.
