Yesterday (25 July) it was confirmed that the billionaire Weston family, which owns Selfridges, has launched a formal auction to sell the business for at least £4 billion, which is being managed by Credit Suisse.
There's just one catch, Selfridges technically doesn't do 'Black Friday'. But, every year, without fail, the department store launches a Christmas Comes Early sale over the exact same weekend. We really don't care what they call it, so long as they come through with the goods.
In 2003, the chain was acquired by Canada's Galen Weston for £598 million and became part of Selfridges Group, which also includes Brown Thomas and Arnotts in Ireland, Holt Renfrew in Canada and de Bijenkorf in the Netherlands.
