Students can prepare to transfer to the CSU system using just one set of preparation courses for their major rather than having to meet different requirements for multiple campuses. The AA-T and AS-T degrees offer a simple and direct path to transfer to the CSU system.
Thank you for your interest in The California State University. You can apply for the 2021-2022 cycle here, including Fall 2021, Winter 2022, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022.
Through March—depending on how quick each campus is—you should receive your admission decision (meaning whether you've been admitted, denied admission, or waitlisted for admission). If you've been accepted, you must submit your "intent to register" by May 1, along with a deposit.
For the CSU system you may transfer without declaring a major. To be admitted to impacted programs, however, you must apply to the program. The CSU system strongly encourages students to declare a major by the time they have 75 (semester) units earned.
A general rule of thumb is – file your applications at the very beginning of which ever is to be your last full term/semester before the intended transfer. If you hope to begin at the next college for the Fall term, you should be filing the application at the very beginning of the Spring term.
SDSU accepts applications between October 1 and November 30 for admission the following fall.
- Application for admission. Transfer students are asked to apply using the CSU Application.
- $50 application fee or waiver.
- Final high school transcript or GED.
- Official college transcripts.
- Mathematics requirement.
- Test scores (optional)
- Academic explanation (optional)
The academics are at a very high level and are challenging. The classes require a fair amount of studying but they are never impossible. What I really enjoy as a student of UCSD is the quarter system and the professors. Both of those factors are encouraging students to try harder and harder to reach their goals.
UCSD acceptance rateUCSD freshman acceptance rate: 32%. In 2019, 99,130 freshmen applied to UCSD, 32,062 were admitted, and 6,023 enrolled. UCSD transfer acceptance rate: 56%. In 2019, 19,296 transfers applied to UCSD, 10,835 were admitted, and 3,167 enrolled.
SDSU accepts 19.91% transfer applicants, which is competitive. To have a shot at transferring into SDSU, you should have a current GPA of at least 3.7 - ideally you're GPA will be around 3.85. In addition, you will need to submit standardized test scores.
UCSD is a nerdy school. Students study all the time since there are never any parties going on. UCSD is in La Jolla, which is known to be an old-person's town so they did not want to make a football team since it would be too rowdy in the town.
Admission Considerations and RequirementsThe average GPA of admitted transfer students is above 3.5 and admitted students have completed most or all major prep courses. We give highest priority to applicants from California community colleges and other UC campuses. We admit students for fall quarter only.
Transferring from a CSU to a UC is very difficult. Your given lower priority over CC students and sometimes some of the classes don't transfer. If your committed on transferring to UCSD i recommend talking to a counselor at UCSD to make sure the classes you take at SDSU transfer.
Students from 4-year institutions may not exceed 90 transferable semester units prior to enrollment.
Applications for the fall quarter must be submitted during the month of November and applications for winter quarter admission are accepted only for transfer students in certain majors. UCSC does not accept applications for spring quarter admission.
