If restarting and re-attaching doesn't fix the problem, try reinstalling the driver for your Surface Cover. Select the search box in the taskbar, enter device manager, and select Device Manager in the results. Expand Keyboards. Right-click Surface Type Cover Filter Device.
Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time until the screen turns off (about 15 seconds), then release both. The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.
Use your Surface as a tablet
- Press and hold the Detach key until the light on the key turns green.
- Pull the screen away from the keyboard. You'll have a few seconds to detach it before it reconnects automatically.
According to Microsoft, you might be unable to detach Surface Book from keyboard simply because your battery isn't charged. In order to detach the keyboard, your device must be charged more than 10 percent. After charging your device, you should be able to detach the keyboard without any problems.
You can use it as a bat while detached. It's pretty hard.
It's been great so far. No issues with the device. The screen is very nice and battery life is better than the surface pro 4. I bought i5/256gb/8gb/940m model for around $900 refurbished, but it seems and looks brand new.
The quad-core 13.5-inch Core i7 model, and the 15-inch model which the Surface Book 2 do use fans due to greater thermal demands from the more powerful processors. The only notable difference is the the port selection, which now includes a USB Type-C port alongside two USB 3.0 ports, a Surface Connect and SDXC port.
Display. Both the Book and the Laptop boast 13.5-inch displays, but the former pushes more pixels. The Surface Book has a resolution of 3000 x 2000, whereas the Surface Laptop's is 2256 x 1504. This difference is so small that most people won't notice it.
The fact that the Surface Book 2 is pricier makes the original Surface Book a more appealing option to many people. With its two devices rolled into one form factor, a beautiful 3,000 x 2,000 display and powerful internals – not to mention that Dynamic Fulcrum hinge, the Surface Book is certainly a worthy investment.
Unfortunately, Microsoft has no plans to sell Surface Book keyboard base separately. In the event of lost, stolen or damaged base, Microsoft will replace it on the basis of customer-service issue.
How to view your touch keyboard
- Click the Start button.
- Click the Settings button. It looks like a gear.
- Click Devices.
- Click Typing.
- Click the switch below Show the touch keyboard when not in tablet mode and there's no keyboard attached so that it turns on.
Select the Start button, then type system information. Select System information in the list of results. Find System Model under the Item column. The model info for your Surface will appear in the Value column next to System Model.
To switch from tablet mode back to desktop mode, tap or click the Action Center icon in the taskbar to bring up a list of quick settings for your system. Then tap or click the Tablet mode setting to toggle between tablet and desktop mode.
Configuring Tablet Mode involves three basic actions:
- Go to the Tablet Mode tab under Settings -> System.
- Toggle the "make Windows more touch friendly" option on or off.
- Select whether the device switches modes automatically, prompts you or never switches.
