If you forget to tap in or out with your contactless card you'll get the same maximum fare as you would with Oyster.Your Compass Card requires a positive balance at all times for entry. So if your card has a negative balance, it will not work until you top it up with Stored Value.
Loading Compass Cash
Compass Cash can be loaded at all ticket machines, MTS Transit Store, Compass Service Center (619.595. 5636), NCTD Customer Service Centers, online (value loaded online may not be available for 48 hours), and participating Albertsons and Vons grocery stores.If you have a Compass Card or Compass Ticket, you can transfer across bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus on a single fare for up to 90 minutes (120 minutes with a West Coast Express fare), as long as your fare includes the number of zones you intend to travel on SkyTrain and SeaBus.
Using a Compass card, it's $3.35. Add ferry fare of $17.20 (a little less if fuel rebate is in effect, a little more if there's a fuel surcharge). In summary, you'll save the most money on public transit if you use a prepaid ticket on the Victoria side and a Compass fare card on the Vancouver side.
The Compass Card is a “smart card” that holds different types of transit passes on one convenient card. To use it, make sure it's loaded with a valid pass and tap the card on a validator at any rail station platform, ticket vending machine (for the Trolley) or on any bus.
Compass card insufficient funds glitch? You need to have a 6 dollar deposit on the card. If you are below your funds the computer will take money from your deposit so you don't get stranded when you did your last trip. Also if you add the funds online, it'll take some hours for the the money to be added to the card.
The orange Concession Compass Card can be loaded with a discounted monthly pass covering 3 zones, day passes, and/or with stored value for pay as you go. People who qualify for discounted fares include children 5 to 13 years old, secondary students 14 to 19 with a valid GoCard, seniors 65+, and HandyCard holders.

Stored Value (Compass Card)
Using Stored Value on your Compass Card is just like adding cash to your card, so you can pay-as-you-go. It gives you a discounted rate over a cash fare and offers added flexibility since you don't need to specify a zone or zones in advance.Compass Cards are now being sold in the following places:

- At Compass Customer Service Centre at Stadium-Chinatown Station.
- At Compass Vending Machines (CVMs) at most SkyTrain stations and at all West Coast Express stations.
- At CVMs located at 18 London Drugs stores.
If your trip requires the use of more than one bus to reach your destination, ask the driver for free limited-time transfer when you pay your fare. Transfers are valid for two (2) hours and can be used as your fare on any bus, in any direction.
Compass is the reloadable fare card that works everywhere on transit in Metro Vancouver. Simply load Stored Value or a pass onto your card and tap your way across the system.
They're at all Canada Line, Expo Line and Millennium Line stations, the Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay ferry terminals, and Metro Vancouver London Drugs stores. You can buy Compass cards, single tickets or day passes at the machines. So, I ended up using cash to buy the Compass card.

- Check that the Region on your device is correct.
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
- Tap.
- Tap your city's transit card, then choose an amount to put on the card and tap Add.
- Follow the steps to create a new transit card on your iPhone.

On arrival at the airport you can walk over to domestic terminal and go to the 7-11 store. They should have concession compass cards in stock. If you buy a Compass Card you will be charged a $6 fee for the card and then load cash onto it so for your first ride your cost would be a minimum $16.

You can unregister your existing Compass Card by calling Compass Customer Service at 604-398-2042 or by visiting the Compass Customer Walk in Centre.
$6 Refundable Card Deposit: Compass Cards cost $6, which is a refundable deposit, meaning that if you no longer need your card you can return it to us at one of our customer service locations or by mail.
The wristbands are highly durable for frequent use. They can be reloaded online, at a Compass vending machine, by phone or in person. The waterproof, silicone wristband taps to open the fare gates just like a regular Compass Card.
The Compass Card is a reloadable fare card that works everywhere on the Translink public transit system, including Coast Mountain Bus, Skytrain, the Seabus and the West Coast Express train. It replaced more than 150 different tickets and passes.
TransLink has issued a special edition of its Compass Card smart card – a green coloured smart card decorated with tree icons celebrating the recent opening of the Evergreen Extension of SkyTrain's Millennium Line.
By phone, in-person or from a Compass Vending Machine, Monthly Passes are available between the 20th of the previous month until the 15th of the current month. Your credit card will be charged at time of purchase, and passes activate the first time you tap within that pass-period (typically on the first of the month).
You do not tap out. On Oyster each bus fare is £1.30, or included if you have a travelcard. There is a £4 daily cap if you only travel by bus. The yellow card reader is by the driver as you enter on ordinary buses and there are a couple near each door on bendy buses.
TransLink offers a DayPass fare, allowing you unlimited travel over all three zones for one day. The pass is $10.50 for an adult, and $8.25 for a concession fare. DayPasses are available at Tourism Vancouver's Visitor Centre, from ticket machines in SkyTrain and SeaBus stations, and from select London Drugs locations.
